Seeing nothing behind her back, she turned to the knight. “Wait, you don’t mean me..where’s this princess?” Her brow furrowed in confusion, this was even worse than trying to remember how she ended up outside the castle.
Still in his deep bow, “yes your brother had sent you off to the eleven kingdom for safety after what happened with your parents. They must’ve given you something to forget what happened.” His voice had changed to polite, and orderly.
“Wait, you don’t have to bow over me!” She called out.
“Princess..”
She cut him off. “Wait my brother?”
“Yes, after your parents passing in the fire, your brother whom is older than you by ten years was crowned king by the people..” His tone didn’t change from being over polite.
“How old am I then?” She questioned with curiosity.
“Seventeen, princess.” He finally rose from his bow.
“Ah, so that would make him twenty seven.” She said.
“You can meet him tomorrow if you would like, you should rest princess. The elf kingdom is so far away, do you know how you got here?” He asked, if anything his voice got even more formal, and monotone as the conversation continued on.
This was the first time, she thought he was actually curious about what happened to her. But she remembered herself he was only doing his duty as a knight. “Honestly, I have no idea. I just woke up on the ground outside.” She still answered the question anyway as her hand raised to her head, in embarrassment.
“Very well, please follow me to your bedroom then.” He turned away and started walking to the upper staircase which was right beside the thrones.
She was frozen for a moment taking it all in, but the ice released her as she ran after where he went. She felt like she was finally understanding something since this whole thing started which seemed like decades ago.
Her steps on the stairs were light, and airy as the knight’s heavy metal shoes seemed to make the stairs groan with the effort of supporting them.
The staircase was dimly lit just like the throne room. Which if you didn’t close enough you would miss the person who had hidden himself in the darkness, trying to listen to their conversation. The King was there cloaked in his natural elements sliding around like the snake he was, smirking for his poor younger sister whom finally made her way home after all these years. He watched the pair make their way upstairs, and when he sure no one would be able to catch him he made his way outside into the night air.
The Knight guided Adelaide into her bedroom. Bowing once more he said. “You can find everything you need in your wardrobe, have a good night.” He then turned to leave.
“Don’t be so formal.” She called after him.
Standing in her own room made her feel like a stranger, seeing things that belonged to her old self, a person she all but didn’t remember.
She looked around moving to the wardrobe the knight was talking about. Holding onto the heavy oak doors, she slowly opened them peering inside. She saw beautiful gowns that any girl would be happy about, gowns of any colour you could imagine, different styles and fabrics. Her hands moved through them, finally stopping at a large ball gown in a soft pink colour. She was stunned by the beautiful garment.
She realized she had been standing in one place for so long, that it was finally time for bed. Closing the oak doors, she searched for some sort of sleeping dress.
Walking around the room, she opened drawer after drawer, soon finding what looked like a night dress. She was about to undress when she realized her door was still wide open. She moved her bare feet across the cold wooden floor, closing it with a soft click.
