Looking around and seeing nothing, she removed the dirty ripped green dress that she was still wearing. Without knowing where to put the dirty garment, she hid it underneath her bed. She quickly threw on the night dress, the day had caught up to her, and she realized how tired she really felt. She crawled into her bed with what seemed like a hundred blankets on it, smirking happily she soon fell asleep.

As she was asleep, she once didn’t hear the knight outside her bedroom door making sure she went to bed okay.

Smirking to himself he made his way back to his post outside. It was a silent night, nothing was really going on, except for the loud noises that were coming from the inn not too far away. Townsmen were getting drunk after work. He listened seeming it was nothing important that he had to check out.

The night seemed to drag on until the king came back into the courtyard riding on a black horse that matched well with his personality.

Spotting the knight the king smirked like a vile snake. He rode his horse closer to the knight.

“So has anything interesting happened tonight?” The knight went stiff, he knew how the king felt about his little sister.

“Well, uh your sister came back this morning.” The knight said trying not to make him angry but the the king simply burst out laughing. “So that little presumptuous little witch is back, oh how I’ve should’ve sent her further.” The knight knew the king’s true feelings. He was jealous of how their parents dotted on her more, for how she was sweeter than he could ever be, for how cold blood ran through his veins, everything about her sent him flying up the wall.

The secret he held so dearly was that it was his fault, he forced Adelaide to go away, he poisoned her, hoping that she would never return to his neck of the woods.

The Knight was uncomfortable around the King, there was something wrong, something different about him.

“I’ll meet her tomorrow.” The King said in an overly bored tone, like he couldn’t care less about what was going on. The Knight bowed simply agreeing with him, but his highness turned both his nose, and horse away. Turning back into town, the knight watched as him slowly disappear.

So the Knight stayed at his base, mostly making sure no one tried to scale the castle’s walls, or caused any trouble for Adelaide whom was sleeping. He knew she would hear nothing, but why was he so worried about the young princess. As the thought kept creeping back into his mind, the night seemed to drag on, until finally the sun rose in the far distance. A sign everyone in the village would be starting their day all over again.
