Friday: April 8
It was quite early in the morning. Reese rolled out of bed, hoping to avoid his parents. They were yelling, a lot. He sighed and hastily dressed for school. "Here we go again." He had no idea what they were so worked up about and he didn't intend to find out. An abundance of religious imagery lined the hall leading to the door from his bedroom. Reese rolled his eyes and practically ran for the door. This had been his routine for as long as he could remember. He never bought into all that 'higher power' nonsense. "Success is wrought from your own hard work not by riding the coattails of some false prophets." He despised how strongly his parents believed in such garbage. They, of course, rejected that their own son harbored such blasphemous thoughts. He shuddered at the thought of the inhumane things he'd endured at their hands. He stopped in to a small café on the way to school for a quick breakfast.
He arrived at the school. On his way in, he passed by a brunette girl with long pigtails (Capella Evaline). She was reading what looked like sheet music. She paid no attention to Reese or the others that walked by. He hurried to meet up with a companion. A little shorter than him with powder blue eyes and wore her long pale brunette hair in a ponytail, tied up with a thin cord with beads at each end (Kye Jeong).
"Morning, Jeong." Reese said with a playful grin.
"Oi Kinai, where were you yesterday?" Kye whined in response.
"I uh...had some 'business' to take care of." he nodded back affirmatively. She pouted a bit then sat back down.
"So when will we finally go do 'that'?" she asked with an impatient look. "I'm tired of sitting around following 'that guy's' lame orders!" She sighed.
"Soon." Reese answered confidently. "Once the 'vermin' is out of our hair."
"How long is this going to take?" she rested her head on her hands on the table.
"Be patient, I just need a little more." He gave a devious smile. She returned the gesture and with that they headed to their class.
In front of Reese sat a charismatic girl. She had crimson eyes and medium length white hair (Kori Kanamura). Her and the blonde (Ria Imani) in front of her were constantly talking and passing notes during class. She seemed well liked by most of the class, Reese and Kye were off put by her overly sociable attitude. The stoic brunette with pigtails couldn't seem to care less and was absorbed in her own things.
Lunch came, and the blonde friend approached her.
"Hiya, Evaline chan!" she said in a cheerful tone. Capella looked up from her book while still eating silently. "Aren't cha lonely all by yourself?" she swayed back and forth, shifting her weight from one leg to the other and back.
"Not really." she said in a calm quiet voice. "I prefer to be alone." she started to look back to her book but then looked back with a hint of displeasure on her face. "And I would appreciate if you were not so casual toward me Imani san." She continued to give Ria a sidelong glance until she eventually gave up and left.
"Hmph, fine!" she said a tad disappointed but returned to her usually cheerful self soon after.
"What a weirdo!" Kye sneered toward Ria. In her short messy hair sat a pair of furry fake cat ears.
"Just ignore her." Reese waved in her direction as if pushing her out of their minds. Kye nodded reluctantly.
"She's so damn annoying." she scoffed and turned away.
Once lunch had ended the rest of their classes passed by then everyone was getting ready to go home, Reese ran up to Ria. Before anyone noticed him there, he snatched the ears off her head.
"What kind of loser wears cat ears to school?" he mocked as he waved them around. She tried to take them back, but he pulled away.
"Cut the crap, Kinai!" she growled. She took a step toward him, lunging at him. Caught by surprise he failed to dodge the incoming blow to his abdomen.
"You bi-" he started to hiss as Ria readied to kick him in the face. Barely defending it, he braced himself, holding his arms up to deflect the blow. Stopping her leg midair, he dove down and swept his leg, attempting to trip her. Quickly she brought her heel down on his shoulder. He followed through as he yelped in pain. A crowd had begun to form around the brawling pair, cheering and chanting. A timid blond boy with deep indigo eyes (Teddy Saveli) struggled to force his way to the center. Ria had fallen to the ground and Reese scooted backwards, clutching his shoulder, in pain. Ria got to her knees then launched herself at Reese with a punch. He fell back as she landed on top of him. She punched repeatedly. He guarded with his forearms then shoved her off with his legs. She was airborne momentarily then tumbled on the ground. He sprang up and went to kick her lying on the ground.
"Kinai!" His voice sounded uncharacteristically coarse. The blond boy pushed his way out. A single cowlick like strand flopped over the rest of his side parted bangs. "Now is not the time to be picking fights!" he continued to scold Reese. He leaned in close and grabbed at the collar of his shirt, pulling him in. "We were told to lay low when we don't have orders." he lowered his voice so only Reese could hear.
"Shove off, Saveli!" Reese slapped away the hand holding his shirt and pushed Theodore away. "Get over yourself! No one's buying your 'goody goody' act!" he commanded. He brushed himself off, grabbed his bag which had fallen aside and stormed off. Ria sat up. Theodore walked up to her and handed her the ears Reese had taken.
"Th-thanks." she muttered in response. Capella stood at the edge of the now dispersing crowd, looking on with a fatigued expression. Theodore bowed and apologized repeatedly in Reese's stead, despite not being involved in what happened in any way. Ria laughed it off. Eventually the halls cleared out without a trace of the skirmish that occurred just moments before.
