Devlin walks ahead of me when all of a sudden he stops and kneels down in the tall grass next to the pathway. At the time I didn't know why he was doing that, but I found out not much later. "Danami, get over here, quickly" he whispers. I am confused by Devlin's behaviour, and the stalkerbird next to me also looks at me in confusion. I rush over to Devlin to see what's going on. Then I see the reason why he called me over. A chocolate labrador puppy is hiding in the grass, it seems to have a big cut. All the way from its back to its belly. "Poor thing" I say to Devlin. He nods, "I tried to talk to him to make him come to me, just like you always do, but it just walked away from me... We have to do something." I kneel down in the tall grass, as I look at the puppy. It walks closer to me as I reach out my hand and whisper words of encouragement. "Good boy" I say as he touches my hand. I pick him up and hold him close, making sure I touch his deep cut as little as possible. I look at Devlin as I hear a sigh. He looks at the ground "I did the exact same thing you just did, but with the opposite effect... Also that stalkerbird of yours is leaning against you like a purring cat..." I look down and see Buddy leaning against my leg. I laugh, "He is one silly bird though". Devlin chuckles "You're right about that!" He pauses and adds "It does make me wonder though, how are you always so good with animals?"
