Friendship - Part 2

Friendship - Part 2

Jul 31, 2018

Sitting on the park bench next to Mr. Andrés, I told him about what had happened on the tour of the university with Alan and Axel.

-And then Alan left without waiting for us to say goodbye.

- That really seems to be getting worse.

-But what really worries me is that Alan meets more and more with the people of that nightclub, and despite being a clever boy, he is also neglecting his studies. He can maintain a minimum average, but at this rate he will have problems when the university exams arrive.

-That is also bad, but in my experience, it is worse to walk in bad companies like those that simply fall behind a year in school.

Be delayed one year ... I could understand that Mr. Andrés, who had lived so long, one year, does not seem much, but for us it was a great loss, especially by the fact that we no longer would see as often as before. Certainly, we knew that if we took different careers we would separate into different groups, but at least we had the general studies to stay together, as well as the library and the lunches.

But after a moment, I realized that we really had not talked much about it because of the distance Alan took from Axel and me. Since he had begun to become closer to Ralf and the people of his club, it seemed that he was beginning to forget about us and our friendship.

-Boy –Mr. Andrés realized that my thoughts tormented me-, the way you talk to me this young man, Alan, I notice that you appreciate it a lot and sincerely want to help. But you must not forget that each person is also responsible for their own decisions. As a friend, what you can do is talk to him about what can happen to him if he continues on the path he is traveling, but you should not let your concern for your friend hurt you too.

-I know. It's like saying a phrase in the notebook of thoughts:

Do not forget who you appreciate,

But it would be worse to forget yourself.

Remember well your friends and loved ones,

But do not make those who love you suffer by forgetting yourself.

-This thought I understood quite well the first time I read it.

-That's good, boy.

Then, a brown car appeared at the exit of the park where Mr. Andrés used to go playing the horn.

-Lately his granddaughter picks him up quite often.

-Well, the cold season is not far away, and she worries that I might get sick if I stay a long time. Especially now that you come more often to talk to me, but that seems to reassure her too, now she knows I'm not as lonely as she thought. And one more thing, I suggest you read the "Friendship" thought. I'm not sure if you can use it this time, but I think you should also read it.

Mr. Andrés got up and said goodbye before going to his granddaughter's car.

-Alex! -Odette, Mr. Andres's granddaughter, called me to greet me from her car, with the same smile she had seen on her face since the first time we met-. Do not stay long in the park! It seems like it's going to rain!

-Thank you! Be careful Odette!

Odette was the main reason why I had started attending the university tours. She was two years older than me, but despite that, she had a fairly mature and responsible attitude towards her grandfather. It was when, one afternoon, she arrived early and joined the conversation when I mentioned Mr. Andrés about mid-term exams, and she asked me about which university course I would choose next year. When I told her I was not sure, she told me about the options at the local university where she studies. But the truth was that I had been more attracted to her than the information about the university.

Maybe I was not like Alan, who was just looking for a night of pleasure and never seeing the girls he was involved with again, but still Odette really made me feel attracted. And in the same way that Odette had warned me, the clouds in the distance seemed to be dark and menacing with rain. I looked at the lake for a moment to remember how it had been the last time I felt that way, I took out my thoughts book from my jacket and looked for the thought that Mr. Andres mentioned before leaving: "Friendship".

Friendship is something that cannot be seen, but it can be felt.

False friendship will only be present when one has to give.

The real friendship will shine above all when

A friend is in danger.

Those who want real friends, real friends they will be.

And those who do not have more than interest,

They will never risk it.
