Nathan arrived at the lake, driving down to where Chadwick's cruiser was. He parked, before stepping out of the car. Chadwick was not present, but his vehicle was. Nathan looked around, confused, before looking down to the forest entrance. He dashed down to it, wasting no time.
Chadwick raced through the trees, only a few feet away from the suspect. "Stop!" he shouted, almost tripping on a fallen branch. The suspect payed no attention to him, keeping their speed. Nathan made it to the forests, looking around, before heading closer to the lake. He looked to his right while running to spot Chadwick and the suspect. "Stop in the name of the law!" Chadwick yelled forward, to no advancement. Nathan made a quick turn and headed for the shoreline the suspect was going towards.
Skidding to a stop, Chadwick pulled out his gun and shot three times. The suspect dodged all bullets but one, which hit their left arm. They ignored the shot like it was nothing. Chadwick came in on the radio channel between him and Nathan. "Bullets ain't stoppin' 'em, Nathan. You gotta beat 'em there." he said, picking up his speed once more. Nathan made his way to the shore, and turned right, spotting the suspect higher up in the trees. He dashed forward, the suspect and him locking paths. Chadwick kept running far behind the two.
The suspect jumped for the lake as Nathan tackled them, causing them to both fall in. Chadwick finally made it to the shore, gun in hand. He aimed at the water as the suspect fought to escape. Nathan took out his gun as well, aiming it for the legs of the suspect. The suspect then made a quick blow to Nathan's face, causing him to fall back as the suspect took his gun. Nathan stared in realization as the suspect aimed the barrel to their chin. He launched, extending his arms. "No!" he shouted, as the gun fired.
"Oh my...Nathan, are you..." Chadwick could barely string a sentence together through heavy breathing. Nathan climbed out of the lake, grabbing his gun. "What...Why did they...?" Chadwick mumbled. Nathan looked at the body, and then to Chadwick. "Taking their own lives now...But for what? Did this suspect even have an objective?" he asked. Chadwick looked at him. "I don't know. I was at the lakefront, and...They pulled their gun on someone. When I knocked it out of their hands they started running." he replied. Nathan looked at the body once more, shocked and confused. "We should get back to the department." he suggested to Chadwick.
Chadwick nodded, walking back to his car. Nathan turned around and headed in that direction, before something caught the corner of his eye. He stopped and turned, slowly walking in the direction of a strange glow.
The closer he got, the more lightheaded he felt. Finally, he'd reached it. Before him was a large boulder, which had many carvings on it. The strange glow came from a gem-like item engraved in the middle of it, surrounded by symmetrical markings. Nathan extended his arm out to touch the boulder.
When his fingertips made contact, he fell back, and his mind became clouded. A temporary headache came into feeling, as his vision of the present was replaced with a foggy sight of a man, standing on a rooftop, another figure locked behind his arm. He had a gun, or something like it, in his right hand. The view was from the ground, Nathan feeling intense pain in his lower abdomen. The gun was fired as Nathan shot up to his knees, still in the forest. He looked around, exhaling. Despite the pain felt through the experience, he felt nothing but sweat when he rose back to his feet.
Nathan turned, and slowly walked back to his car.
