The next few weeks, Rico decided to have the lessons at Alma's house. With his injuries, he had been given time off to rest. After which, his aunt forced him to stay with her until he was fully healed.
Flor got off the bus at the stop near her aunt's house. After a long day at school, she was ready to finally relax. How she longed for Summer to already arrive.
Once she got to her aunt's house, instead of going straight inside, Flor made her way around the building and to the backyard.
Rico and Morgan stood at opposite sides of the yard practicing more levitation magic.
"Okay, now slowly," directed Rico.
Using her hand as a guide, Morgan levitated a medium sized rock.
"Good. Now see if you can bring it over to me," said Rico.
Morgan floated the stone towards him. When it was about to reach him, Rico took a couple steps back. Morgan furrowed her brow but continue guiding the rock to him. It got to about a foot away before Rico backed up another few steps.
"Come on," said Morgan.
"All a part of the lesson," said Rico.
Morgan continued to send the stone his way. But the farther it got, the more it started to wobble and lose altitude.
"Almost there," said Rico.
The stone froze in mid-air, Morgan having trouble to get it to go any farther.
"You can do better than that," said Rico.
The stone rocketed forward. Rico held out his good hand, managing to catch it in time. He let out a sigh of relief.
"Should call these sessions deadly bullet catch training," he said.
"She's getting better," chuckled Flor.
"Hey!" greeted Morgan. "Just came back from school?"
"Well we can't all be homeschooled like you. Unfortunately."
Alma came outside and whistled. "Hey guys, I've made sandwiches if you're hungry."
"Lunch break," said Rico hobbling to the back door.
"Even if both his legs had been broken, he'd crawl his way to food," chuckled Flor.
"Guy's gotta eat," chuckled Morgan.
Morgan suddenly craned her neck. She narrowed her eyes on one of the trees in the yard.
"Something wrong?" asked Flor.
"Did something happen to the tree?" asked Morgan.
She pointed at the tree in question. Sure enough, it was missing a few branches since they had been last at the house.
Flor adjusted her glasses, trying to think of what could have happened. "I don't know."
"Maybe it was really windy last night?" said Morgan.
"Maybe..." said Flor. "I'll ask my aunt about it. In the meantime let's grab some sandwiches while we still can."
Inside, Ingrid sat at the kitchen table enjoying a cup of coffee.
"And while I'm there I figure I'll grab some cereal, maybe something for dinner, and a snack. But I get home and you know what happens?" said Ingrid.
"You forget the milk," said Alma.
"I forget the milk. The one thing I wanted to buy in the first place," said Ingrid.
"Hello Mrs. Fey," greeted Flor as she and Morgan sat down.
"Hello Flor. Hope you had a good day at school," greeted Ingrid. "How was the lesson, Morgan?"
"It was okay," Morgan answered.
"Yeah, no new bruises," said Rico, leaning back in his chair.
"Sounds like an improvement to me," chuckled Flor. "And yes I did. But I'm so glad it's the weekend. Couldn't stand being there for another minute."
"I'm glad too. I miss you while you're at school," said Morgan in a dramatic manner.
"Aw, I miss you too," chuckled Flor.
Alma passed out the sandwiches while they were still warm."On the upside, soon you'll be out on Summer break and can hang out together as much as you want."
"Until we go to Mexico," said Flor.
"Mexico?" asked Morgan.
"Oh forgot to tell you. Rico and I are going to Mexico with our parents and Tia Alma for the Summer."
"Guess that means a break from lessons," said Morgan, sounding a little disappointed.
She had grown to enjoy coming for the lessons. It had been nice leaving her house to hang out with other people and not be cooped up in her room all day.
"Do you have anything planned for the Summer?" asked Alma.
"Not really," said Morgan.
"We might visit your aunt and uncle," said Ingrid.
Morgan raised an eyebrow. "Oh yeah, cause that was sooo much fun last time."
Alma tapped her chin as if the wheels in her head were turning.
"How about, you come with us?" she said.
Ingrid and Rico nearly spat out their coffee.
"Really?" said Morgan, her eyes wide.
She glanced over to her mother before adding, "I can't afford a plane ticket."
"I'd be more than happy to pay for it," said Alma. "But of course, it's up to your parents.
"Can I?" Morgan asked. "I've never left the country before."
"I... don't know. I mean I'd have to talk it over with Gregory," said Ingrid.
"Understandable," said Alma. "But I assure you we stay in a very peaceful town. And secluded. It'd be a great place for Morgan to practice her powers more."
"Hooray," Rico muttered sarcastically. He winced as Flor elbowed his side.
"Pleeeeaaase?" Morgan begged.
"We'll see," said Ingrid.
Morgan and Flor slumped in their seats. The dreaded We'll See. In other words... "No."
