A little while later there was a gentle knock on the door. I opened it Sofya was standing there. She stared at me eyes glazing over me and stopping a lot lower than my face. “Hey.” I said, my lips twitching into a smirk. “Come on.” I grabbed her hand and led her to the beach. “You know how to surf? If not I can teach you.” I said. I had decided to get in the water and kill her so no one would hear her scream. I shuddered at the thought, I still wasn't sure if I'd actually go through with it, probably not but I had to try, it was my brother's life on the line. “Yeah, I know how.” She replied. I grabbed two surfboards from the shed. Then looked back at Sofya. She had taken off her shorts and T-shirt she had on a red bikini that hugged her toned body. Sofya looked at me and raised an eyebrow. “What?” She asked. I shook my head. “Nothing.” Sofya flashed a smile then grabbed one of the boards and dashed into the water. She paddled through the waves then turned and slowly stood up, then road one of the waves to shore jumped off into the wet sand and bowed. “Show off!” I called out. I picked up the other board and got in the water. Time to put the plan to action. I deliberately chose a huge wave to make it look realistic. I was going to pretend to drown so she could “save” me. Then I kill her. It wasn’t very nice but I couldn’t think of anything else, I just needed to get the job done. I let the wave crash over me then I went down to the bottom and just floated there behind a rock. “Ash!” I heard Sofya’s voice scream, I immediately felt guilty, I couldn’t do this. She cared about my well being, and she’d know me for a day, and even though she didn’t remember me from before. I cared about her, I had never felt this way about someone, I couldn’t let her die, no matter what the consequences. I saw Sofya looking all over, I went limp and closed my eyes. I felt arms close around me. Then we surfaced. Sofya dragged me towards shore and turned me on my back, laying me on the sand. Then after a minute, started CPR pressing her soft lips to mine, they tasted better than I had thought. When she pulled away I opened my eyes. “You’re an aemon.” I said, I would tell her the truth and she would help me escape Alek and if she refused I would have to kill her, but I didn’t think she would. Then I sat up and saw her horrified expression and she was shivering and drenched. I felt really guilty. First I tricked her into thinking I had drowned then I let her do the CPR, I could of just sat up, she belonged to my brother I couldn’t feel that way and I was going to use her anyway, even if I didn’t kill her she could never be mine, it was against the law. Then, of course, doing what I’m not supposed to do I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her close. “Sorry to have scared you.” I said gently. “What? You didn’t drown?” She stammered. I shook my head. “I’m like you Sofya, I know you’re different we were down there for thirty minutes.” Sofya’s mouth fell open. “How so?” She asked defensively. I showed her my watch. I read her thoughts. “If we really were down there for thirty minutes we would be dead, he knows my secret, how I’m not human, a freak.” I looked at her. “You are not a freak.” I said sternly, how could she think that. Suddenly Sofya jerked backward and stood up. I quickly caught her wrist and stood up as well. Her eyes rolled back in head and she started falling towards the ground. I caught her. I scooped her into my arms, what had happened. I dashed inside and sat down on the couch laying her on my lap. I couldn’t hear her thoughts or feel her feelings. Was she dead? My lungs constricted. I felt for a pulse, it was there I let out a huge sigh, she was going to be ok, I hope. “Sofya can you hear me?” I thought she’s having a precognition. A few hours later she woke up panting and gasping for air. I noticed she was shivering. I got a blanket and wrapped it around her then pulled her back to the couch. “Tell me exactly what happened once you blacked out.” I said softly. She turned to face me blinking tiredly. “Well once I blacked out I thought I had woken up but I hadn’t, it was like a dream but I had never seen the place before. It was a huge grass field in the mountains. There were creatures and people battling.” Sofya said then her voice cracked. “I, I, I saw.” She tried to say. “Me, I was kneeling over you, yyyou had a dagger buried in your chest.” She choked out. Oh god, this was definitely a precognition, and one I hope did not happen. Why was I with her though? Maybe we were going to get my brother. “What?” Sofya asked. “I think you may of had a precognition.” I said to her. She frowned. “A what?” “It’s a probable detailed seeing of the future.” I explained. She shook her head stubbornly. “No, it was just a strange dream.” She said yawning. “You tired?” I asked. Sofya nodded. I heard a loud knock on the door. Probably Alex, he was always so disruptive. I stood up and went to the door and pulled it open. I was right it was Alex and he was standing there soaking wet. I stepped back knocking into Sofya who had followed me to the door. “Sorry.” I muttered. “Hey Ashy, and who’s this pretty little lady?” Alex said as he stepped in. I glared at him, he knew I hated being called that and he did it in front of Sofya. Come on! “Alex, what took you so long?” I asked. “It’s storming out and I had business to take care of.” He said pointing outside, and I didn’t miss the rolling of his eyes. I shut the door. “Now who is this?” Alex asked gesturing at Sofya who was still standing behind me. “That’s Sofya, and she’s going to sleep now, we can talk after.” I said. I didn’t want to tell Sofya too much or she might freak out more than she already was, also I wasn’t sure if I should tell Alex what happened, and why I hadn’t completed the task. Sofya jabbed me in the chest with her finger. “Hey, you don’t order me around, but I was going to bed.” Sofya said storming up the staircase glaring at me. “The guest rooms are to the left!” I called out. I grinned trying not to laugh. She gave me a look then disappeared into one of the rooms. “Adorably feisty.” Alex commented, laughing, as I tossed him a towel. I sighed, she was probably pissed at me, I would be too if she pretended to drown. Then Alex walked over to the couch and lounged across it. I sat down in one of the chairs encircling the couch. “So she’s definitely the one in the legend?” Alex asked after I told him what had happened today. I knew I could trust him, he had proven it a few years ago when I messed up an assignment and almost got myself killed. That was not something I liked to remember. “Yeah, I can see her aurora.” I said. Alex looked at me. “Are you sure you aren’t the guardian, I thought only guardians could see auroras.” I shook my head. “I couldn’t be, I’m not first born, Raphael is her guardian, only firstborns are chosen.” No matter what I feel. The latter I just thought in my head Trust me, I wished I was the guardian. I did not want my brother to have her. Alex gave me a strange look. He always seemed to know how I was thinking. “Ash, you haven't fallen for a certain adorably feisty princess have you? You were supposed to kill her” He asked. I sighed. “I know it’s forbidden and I couldn’t kill her, I knew her from a couple years back, I saved her life.” Alex nodded but he didn’t look like he believed me that I wouldn’t try to pursue her, but my feelings were my own problem and I couldn’t go against the law, even if I broke it occasionally, I still respected the council. “Does she know about the legend?” “No, she didn’t even know what she was, her parents died, I’ll talk to her about it tomorrow. I want to ease into this so she doesn’t freak out, well not more than she already is.” I said. I decided it was best not to tell Alex about the precognition, especially since it involved me. He would never let me leave the house if he found out, actually no, he would send me straight back to Alek, because he knew that Alek wants me alive, but I’m sure he won’t want me alive after I fail this mission though. I stood up. “I’m going to go to sleep now.” I said then started up the stairs. “Night.” Alex said. I checked in on Sofya, she was sound asleep. I got her some more blankets. Then got to my room, changed, and then crawled into bed.
