“…did not give us instructions or explanation on how to... ” she let her hand down and sighted. “… do our job” She finished.
‘‘Where did that voice send us?’’ questioned Arthur.
“Hopefully, not straight into the monster´s lair” muttered Seo-Yun.
“After looking to our surroundings, I will take the risk to affirm that… we are the main place of a village. I mean, we are in the middle of a large square, in front of us there are a church and a fountain. Additionally we are surrounded by houses! The architecture recalls a bad fantasy movie set into a papier-maché medieval town. And it case you did not notice it, it is night time.
The three others wasters looked at him blankly. Seo-Yun was the first to break the silence.
“My dear hand-me-down Surfer, “she stated sweetly before half-yelling. “We are all well-aware that we are in a freaking village; we want to know where on this planet to know what we are looking for. If it is to mimic a cheap tourist guide pointing the obvious, don’t bother to speak.”
“Listen, you dumb cashier, except to ask for the price of…”
“Stop it, the two of you! We have some work to do and don’t have much time” cut short Arthur. “We need to co…”
He was interrupted by the hissings of the cat accompanying them. Arch backed, the ears pulled back, his gaze was locked on the darkness created in the corner of one of the houses. Its growling drew the attention of the wasters who looked closely in the same direction.
“Guys, look there!” exclaimed Soifra, pointing her finger up. “On the porch roof! There is a shadow and it is moving fast”
“It might be a burglar or something similar. Not something supernatural” argued Seo-Yun doubtfully
“It is moving too fast, let’s follow it”
“I am not sure it is a good idea”
“We don’t have any other options so let’s do it” intervened Lachlan.
Taking the recalcitrant cat in their arms, they started running after the shadow and Seo-Yun followed them.
The lithe shadow jumped from roofs to roofs, climbing with dexterity on the walls. The wasters could hardly keep the path of their target. The dark figure slalomed between the chimneys and was heading toward a house before disappearing in an opened window.
“Where is it gone?” asked upset Lachlan.
“I don’t know. I lost sight of it. It might have entered inside one of the houses.” answered Soifra.
“Catch the cat, maybe it will find it” suggested the boy.
“Leave the cat alone Lachlan” sight the second one.
The feline, not interested by their conversation, ran away into one of the streets. Lachlan followed him as it was getting out of sight. Arthur try to suggest to stay still until the shadow makes another appearance but only Seo-Yun was still here as the second girl had tailed his partner as he was leaving.
“Should we make two different teams?” asked the boy.
“They are already gone anyways. Like this we would be more efficient.” The waster answered.
