*Kylar's POV*
“Kylar look!” Fall shouted to me from across the beach. My heart raced when our eyes met. The sun was shining perfectly down on her, her white shorts hugged her hips tightly, while her yellow t-shirt hung loosely on her shoulders. Running up to me, I reached out for her hand as she got closer, worried she’d step on something sharp without her shoes on.
Fall held up a pearly pink sharp drill-like seashell. It almost reminded me of Al, causing my heart to ache even more. Wrapping an arm around Fall’s shoulders, we started to walk along the beach, our feet embedding the sand with our footprints before it was washed away with the water after each step.
“I want you to have it.” She handed the seashell to me, and I lightly took it from her fingertips. Glancing down at her, she was smiling brightly. My heart started to beat loudly, making all other noises inaudible to me. Fall continued to speak as we stood still. Instinctively, I leaned down and placed my lips on hers. They were soft and filled with passion as our mouths began to move in sync, and my body ached to hold her closer. Both my hands went to the sides of her head, as her hands went to my chest, holding my shirt tightly.
Pulling away, we both panted, and she looked up at me sweetly. “I love you.” The words were ones I had heard thousands of times, but today, it was almost painful to listen to them. I planted another kiss on her forehead before grabbing her hand and continuing our walk.
“I love you too; more than anything.” Whispering these words just enough for her to hear them, we walked hand in hand down the beach once again. I’m sorry that this will be our last, but at the very least, I wanted to leave you with good memories.
Don’t worry Fall; to my very last breath, I will protect you. If the worst case scenario happens, Al will take over my role as your guardian. You can trust her. She might seem rough around the edges, but she’s been through a lot. Once she warms up to you, she might not admit it, but she will die for you, just as I would. I love you, more than you can imagine, but I must now leave you... For your own protection.
“Well well well, look who it is! Do you know that you have put the three High Ark Govern Angel’s jobs at stake!?” Donovan, one of the three High Ark Guardian Angels, stepped out from behind a tree as I entered a little open patch in the middle of the forest. His blonde hair and silver eyes were barely visible under the moonlight. Though we were once like brothers, fighting together, now we were enemies. I could forgive him siding with Haven, but I could never excuse what he did to Al.
“Let’s not play around Donovan and get straight to the point of this meeting.” Though Donovan was the last person I wanted to see, I couldn’t directly hand myself over to the Govern angels if I wanted to make a type of deal with them.
“All right then… why is it you’ve called me here? You must want something if you called me instead of the Govern Angels.” Donovan was coy and smart, so he must’ve already known precisely why I called on him.
“I want to make a deal with you.” The words came out strong, and harsh. I couldn’t let him know I was afraid. Of Haven, of him, and of what might happen if today went wrong.
“Now why would I make a deal with you? You destroyed Haven!” I could feel the hatred in his voice. I felt sorry towards him. Because of the war, he lost his Father and younger sister. Due to the pain, eventually his mother took her own life, and now all he had left was his older brother. He made his choice though. Just as I had made mine.
“We once were like brothers, and I trust that we at least have some of that trust and faith between us somewhere deep down.” It was risky doing this, but this was all I had left. I couldn’t keep running; it was getting tough. My wards against the other angels were getting weaker, and I couldn’t keep moving Fall around at my own will.
His eyes seemed to soften as we stared each other down. He sighed and leaned back onto a tree. “So what exactly is it that you want?”
“I will turn myself over; in exchange that Fall be left completely alone. She has done nothing wrong, and I will take the full blame.” I kept my voice steady, trying to keep it from shaking as I knew what would happen if he agreed. I was ready for it though. I would not fight it any longer. If it was the path I was meant to take, then I shall take it with honor.
“Alright.” Donovan agreed reluctantly.. But faster than I expected. Shocked by his response, he pulled out the cuffs. Their vibrant gold, shining brightly as he latched them to my wrists, preventing me from using my powers or wings.
“Good job Donovan, I guess I’ll have to promote you to first High Ark Guardian Angel instead of third.” A familiar voice sent shivers down my spine. Looking over, my eyes locked with those familiar moving gold eyes. The long locks of Silver hair swayed with each of her steps. Themis. The ruler of Haven. Though the six Counsel Angels technically ruled Haven, the strongest of all the angels, all five of them, blindly followed Themis. So even though technically six people ruled together, they all still called her the true ruler of Haven.
“Nice to see you again Kylar, though I can’t say it’s a pleasant feeling.” Her sly smile made me shake. Normally, I wouldn’t be afraid of anyone, but just feeling the immense power radiate off her, scared me. Turning her eyes away from me and onto Donovan, she smiled brightly. “You know what to do. It shouldn’t be too hard to find her now that he won’t be interfering.” Her words made my heart race, as she gestured in my direction. Fall… No!
“Donovan, you promised!” the words came out in a growl as I tried to force my way out of the cuffs. Donovan started laughing to himself before looking at me.
“I didn’t promise anything.” At his words, I struggled more and more to get out of the cuffs. No! I did all of this to protect her, not to put her in more danger! As I struggled, Themis sighed, obviously agitated. Placing her hand on my shoulder, she shoved me down, crushing my shoulder with her grip.
“Listen, I have things to get done, and a kingdom to rule, so if you could just kindly cooperate… that’d be great!” she was angry, her voice was soaked with it. Even her eyes had slowed their movement, becoming darker and more aggressive looking.
I continued to struggle under her grip. I couldn’t let this happen. I’m supposed to protect Fallen. It was no use though; I wasn’t going to be able to break out of the cuffs no matter how much I tried. Al...it’s up to you now. Please...protect her. Keep her safe. I trust that you will welcome her warmly and treat her as one of your own.
“I see that you won’t go quietly.” Now wholly annoyed, Themis cracked her neck and shoulders, her large white wings spreading behind her, the gold pulsing and silver interchanging colors on their bones. A hard thud went to the back of my head, and I fell to the ground. My eyes laid upon the pearly drill-like seashell that landed next to my face, still on its string that hung around my neck. It was the last thing I saw before blackness filled my vision.
