They were in front of the basement door, Alice unlocked the padlock on it. She stepped back for him to open. Alice heard the man’s confused mumbles, but before he could turn, she took this opportunity pull the pen from her pocket and jab it into his Adam’s apple. He screamed in pain and grabbed Alice by wrist, while trying to pull the pen out with the other. She clawed at it until his grip loosened. Once it did, she pushed him down into the darkness of the basement. The loud thuds of his body hitting the stone echoed. The last sound Alice heard was a loud splat, like a pumpkin being smashed to the ground. Alice waited on the top of the stairs to hear for anything else, but the only sound she could hear were the taps of water hitting the floor. Listening for awhile longer, she went and grabbed a lamp from her office, hands shaking as she tried to light a match. She lit the lamp after the third try and quickly walked back to the basement. One foot after the other she slowly made her way down, steadying herself on the wall. The stairs had no railing on the left side and the way down was higher than she remembered. the man didn't hit every step. Halfway down the blood stopped and his body had fallen off the side. It was still too dark to see, so Alice continued down. She knew the corpse couldn’t stay down here for long. Alice almost slipped when she stepped in the blood. She held the lamp to the corpse and shivered at the sight. Half his face was completely smashed, shards of his skull and glistening chunks of his brain splattered all around the floor, his left eye was still in one piece, out of his skull, but still attached to his rectus. The pen was broken under his neck and the blood was still pouring from the wound She stopped looking at the mangled body and looked down at her blouse. It was covered in his blood and some had got on her face and hands. She stripped herself of it, wiping away any blood, and dropping it by the body. She ran up the stairs, locked the door then locked the trapdoor, placing the old equipment and props onto. She looked at herself in the light to see if there was any blood. She didn’t see any drops on her dark blue skirt. She got her coat, buttoned it all the way up, and locked the side door as she normally would. At that point all she wanted was to get home to see Belinda.
