I turned and looked at Rynn,
"I'm gonna be gone for a few days, see ya." I said and walked out the door. As I got closer to the bus stop, I began to feel a bit light headed, and I really hoped that I just needed sleep or food. In the worse case it meant that my human form was slipping again, and I would have to find somewhere to hide for a few hours as I waited for my strength to return. I put my hand up to my face, but it wasn't transparent yet, so I figured I had about an hours left of time before anything major happened.
I fiddled around in my pockets to see if I had any amount of money left, and to my surprise I did. There was a diner just down the street from here and it was small and normally pretty cheap, so I walked down to the diner.
It was actually pretty packed this morning, despite it being only 9, however it was just teens and young kids. There was a booth in the center of the place that was empty so I sat down. A waitress came over and asked for my order, I got some coffee, eggs, and bacon, and then left to go put my order in.
I started to feel lightheaded again. My hand was slowly becoming more and more transparent and then soon it would become whispy and the guise I had would be up. I felt like I was slipping in and out of reality and possibly back into my own that I had so dearly forgotten about after being here for over a month. I saw glimpses of the red hot rocks that formed UnderWorld and I wasn't really sure if I was losing my form or being called back to UnderWorld in an emergency. Fortunately, it was the former. I knew that the façade that I had had was up and people could see pretty clearly that I was not human at all and in fact another being beyond their young comprehension. Once again, my teeth were sharp and pointy, my eyes had completely disappeared, and my skin was as black as coal. My normal loose, dark-red button up with a black tie was gone and had been replaced by a darker-red long sleeved shirt. On the shoulders and right next to the neck it was pointed up, and also the sleeves were flared out immensely. My dark-grey pinstriped pants were now dark red ones with the bottoms flared out in the same fashion as the shirts sleeves. My shoes hadn't really changed much but they were black now.
The only real drawback to losing my human form? Sometimes, it can catch things on fire.
My luck, that's what just fucking happened, and in the middle of a diner too.
Blue flames ringed the table of the booth. The smell of the smoke coming from the flames set the sprinklers off in restaurant. The smaller kids hadn't noticed me yet and that I was grateful for-but it wouldn't be long before they did cause I was at the middle of this shitty circular restaurant and visible from anywhere in here.
One kid pointed at me and started to scream. This caused all the other kids to look at me and then also begin to scream and soon enough the whole diner was filled with screams of little children. The waitress came out to check out what the heck was going on, saw me, dropped her coffee pot, and ran. For another 10 minutes I sat there, being screamed at, and also having food thrown at me despite the fact that it would just go right through me since I'm made of shadows and they only look solid. Police sirens wailed and came closer and closer to the diner. At once they pushed open the door,
"Wheres the man?" They announced, loudly, and everyone pointed straight at me. I smiled nervously but that didn't seem to help the situation at all. It just made me look even more suspicious cause they couldn't see the emotion in my eyes that I was sorry and this was a complete accident.
The police came straight over to me, and took out the handcuffs.
I put my hands behind my back so they could get them on me, but the handcuffs just fell to the floor. The police, astonished, looked to the ground and back at me. They were able to hold my hands behind my back and nothing bad happened, plus I was wearing clothing. It was confusing as to why I couldn't have the handcuffs put on me.
They sighed and just shoved me into the back of the police car. Inisde the diner you could hear small cheers from the little kids that "they caught the bad guy!". I mean I didn't do anything wrong, except...set the table on fire. I guess that's enough but it was an accident! I cant control the fire sometimes, most of the time I can but I haven't gotten the hang of it quite yet.
We arrived at the station within 10 minutes. I was escorted inside and they tried to take my fingerprints but nothing showed up on the paper. That was probably cause I was dead and dead people have no use for fingerprints anymore. Especially when they're demons.
They also tried to get mugshots, and the photos came through they really did but. If you looked close enough, you could see UnderWorld in my face. So they decided "Wow that's really fucking creepy" and tossed them. However, they still had to put me in the records (or add to the records I might have already had). I wasn't sure whether to tell them my birth name or the name I was given when I died. One was already in the records for Erie, Pennsylvania, but the other wasn't. I still decided to use my birth name.
"So young, uh, person, whats your name?"
I shook a bit before I spoke,
"Illias Denotum, sir." As I said the name, my body felt like it was pure fire and that I was gonna burn the station down. It subsided quickly, but I had forgot that the name meant "Jehovah is God" and I couldn't speak it most of the time.
"Are you sure, kid? He's been dead for 12 years."
"Uh, yeah, I'm sure. That's my name."
The officer shrugged, but still he asked,
"Are you alive?"
The question took me back for a second as I wasn't sure how to answer. In demon form, I had no heart beat, so if he came up to me and tried to feel if there was one there it wouldn't be good. If I could just get my human form back, then the quote unquote demon magics would be able to pretend like I had a heart and was completely alive with a normal body temperature. But even then that would still freak the man out as I would have transformed in front of him.
"I think I am sir, I'm quite sure of it."
He accepted the answer and got up to lead me to my cell. There was a larger man (as in height) in the cell already but the officer figured I could deal with him myself.
I had to stay there for a about a week and it wasn't really gonna be that fun.
But that night was interesting.
I got a call from UnderWorld.
This was a normal checkup call to make sure that I was going good and nothing was wrong, but. They could tell if your disguise had flown out the window temporarily. The only draw back was demons in UnderWorld didn't speak the same as they did on Earth so I had to speak the same which woke my roommate up to horrifying sounds as I chatted with my buds on the phone. I felt like I just might take a visit for an hour of Earth time and then come back.
Taking a visit was hard. I was in a cell, confined, and didn't want my roommate- or rather cellmate- to hear or know what the fuck was happening. I had to go though.
I asked my friends to send an emergency warp call- it would warp me back to UnderWorld in almost an instant from when I answered the call and it was the only way out but I would end up back in the same place when I transported back here.
It was a fairly smooth ride down. I was greeted with a face-full of hot red rock and a smiling face laughing at me.
"Ifnie! How you been?" said the tall one, shimmering in and out of view.
"Ah I'm good! What about you, Elvrya?"
Elvrya smiled. She was the odd one of the bunch that I knew, really, cause she was made of light beams, and normally people don't fear that. But she said that it wasn't light she feared, but the fear of being swallowed up by the sun. She wore a long dress that went to the floor but showed off her legs and golden pumps. She has short, black hair that draped over her shoulders in the front. She also had no eyes as was common for most demons (with the exception of the Eye Demons, you don't wanna mess with them, all made of eyes and such) but her teeth were blunt like a humans and not sharp.
"Say, Elvrya, didn't you have a kid to protect?"
"Yeah! I did, but y'know, this and that happened,"
"You killed her didn't you"
" Yeah I killed her." We both chuckled.
We went on and on for a good while until I checked the time on my phone,
"Oh dear its been two hours, I have to go, the sun will rise soon."
I pressed the "end call" button and it warped me back into the jail cell.
It was hard to breathe.
My lungs felt like sand.
It burned to speak.
I collapsed on the floor, gasping for air, the breath having had been knocked out of me on arrival as if I used the warp. My cellmate noticed me on the ground, flickering in and out of reality again, but fell back asleep and forgot I existed.
I regained my breath again but I couldn't change back into my normal form just yet. I needed sleep.
I fell asleep in the other bed other side of the cell. It was comfy.
