In a place far away, more than should ever be traversable before the end of all existence, were beings of incredible power. This power, however, could not be exerted over much of anything. Over time, the beings grew stale with age, lacking physical forms, their minds would rot away into states of apathy. In a last attempt to save their legacy, they decided to try something forbidden. They tried to turn each other into solid objects. The result of their experiment was quite shocking, and mildly disturbing. A crystalline heart lay before them, completely transparent. They found that that heart had will, and that it could exert itself over the liquids of its environment. It took on a humanoid form, reflective eyes of the solid form of the liquid they inhabited.
Eventually their desperation renewed, seeing as the new being they had sacrificed one of their own for had no interest in doing anything to give them bodies. They tried again, forming more crystalline hearts of stranger, darker designs. The next heart to be created was stronger than the first, but it beat fainter, and the form it held was smaller and less defined. It was mildly clouded, but it was very fiesty despite its weaknesses. The third to be created was dark and scary, a powerful heartbeat matched with a powerful flow. It inhabited a dark liquid which the others had avoided. That being was locked away quickly by the next few hearts to be created, as each of them sensed the malice permeating it. Its heartbeat continually shook their liquid planet, although very faintly. After a while, very few of the original beings had remained. The beings of liquid lived their lives happily and simply, enjoying the sky and their cold, white sun.
Then one day they heard the pounding of the great heart below them stop. They felt like it had broken free. Something was wrong. Did it really break free? What was going on? Without any warning besides that, each of them suddenly lost their physical form, crystalline cores flying deep into the outer reaches of space as a horrid dark mess, without a pulse, without a form, consumed their home. None of them could watch it, however as each of them had lost their sight with the explosion.
