“No.” He said. “I am one of the sidhe. I just dislike sunlight and going outside.”
“Oh.” She smiled. “My mom is a fallen angel, and my dad is a vampire.”
What a messy heritage. “What does that make you?” He asked, trying to be polite.
“Complicated.” She said with a sigh.
“I do apologize.”
“Nah, it’s cool.” She said. “It’s not your fault. It’s not really their fault either. You can’t help who you fall in love with sometimes, I guess.” He nodded his agreement.
“Enough chit chat.” Mitsu broke in. “Are we here to watch bad horror movies, or are we here to watch bad horror movies?”
Zebedee made a face. This had not been his idea. “I hate bad horror movies.” He object, his last token whine about this evening’s activity.
“Me too.” Amanda said, wrinkling her nose. “They give so many things a bad name, and they don’t even do it well. I know I said yes to bad movies, but does it have to be bad horror movies?”
Mitsu sighed and turned to Joseph. He shrugged. “Abstain.” He said.
Mitsu threw up her hands in defeat. “Fine, you guys don’t even know what you’re missing. We can just watch bad movies instead.”
While Mitsu set up the DVD player, Zebedee popped popcorn in the kitchen with some unneeded assistance from Joseph. “So what do you think?” Joseph muttered to Zebedee while he waited for the kernels to pop.
“I think I am fully capable of popping popcorn without assistance from someone one third my age.” Zebedee said, dodging what he was certain was the real question.
“No, of Amanda! Do you like her?”
“She seemed pleasant.”
“You know what I mean, Zebedee.”
Zebedee sighed. There was really going to be no getting around this then. “She seems very young.”
“Well, she is. Younger than me.”
Zebedee glared at Joseph. “How young?”
Joseph shook his head, grinning. “Ask her yourself. A gentleman does not reveal the age of a lady.” Zebedee suppressed a groan. That had to mean very young. Maybe even in her fifties...
They took the popcorn into the living room, where Mitsu and Amanda were whispering furiously. Amanda blushed hotly when she saw them, which gave Zebedee some idea of what they had been talking about. He didn’t sigh, but he wanted to.
