Ellie and I walk across the courtyard to the front of the school, pulling our luggage. She keeps on gasping as we walk closer to the school. It's kinda funny to see her expression. I zone out for a few seconds, thinking of all the people that I may encounter. Then, all of my thoughts are forgotten as we enter the building.
The inside of the school looks even better than the outside. The floor is so white and shiny that I can see my reflection. The high, tan colored ceiling has a single chandelier in the middle. There are two sets of staircases- one on each side of us. The walls are white and shiny too. There's a 3-hallway intersection laid out before us, and bulletin boards decorate the walls. There are posters of events and clubs. There was a sign on the wall, indicating where things are, like the main office. Which is exactly where Ellie and I should go.
"Come on, Ellie," I say. "And close your mouth before a fly flies into your mouth."
She gasps and looks at me with a fake hurtful face and puts her hand over her heart. "Charlotte, you're so mean," she says.
"I don't care and I'm honest, not mean," I reply back.
We follow the signs that will lead us to the main office. The hallways are empty, which is strange. 'Shouldn't classes be ending already?' As soon as I have that thought, the bell rings.
'Ah, crap.’
Suddenly, students come pouring out of the classrooms, going separate ways. Some were walking and talking to their friends while others ran down the hallway. Ellie and I continue on our way, trying not to let anyone notice us. We fail miserably because soon students start to stare at us and whisper at each other.
"Who are they?"
"Are they the new students?"
"Why does that one have pink hair?"
"They look so weird."
"They look cute."
"Are they twins?"
We ignore them and continue our way. It's not long until we finally found the main office.
'Finally.' I thought to myself.
We enter the main office. It looks normal. Clean just like any regular office. The secretary looks up from her computer. She appears to be in her mid-thirties. She has chocolate brown hair and light brown eyes. Her hair is tied into a neat bun and she has a genuine smile plaster on her face.
"How can I help you?" she ask us.
"We are the newly enrolled students, Charlotte and Ellie Bennett," I reply.
"Okay, wait here," she tells us. She got up and left, leaving us alone in the office. Ellie and I sat down and put our suitcases next to us.
"Charlotte, I'm so excited! We get to be in a private school! I wonder if Cole is going to be here!" she says excitedly.
"Ellie, calm down and don't shout. And Cole said that he is attending Noble High, didn't he?" I ask.
"He did but......" she says hesitantly.
"But what?" I ask her.
"What if he said something else or what if I was mistaken? Or what if he went to another school?! Or what if he likes someone else?" she asks, worried
"Relax, Ellie. He is here and he also gave you his number, didn't he" I ask her.
"Yeah, he did," she says.
"So relax, there's nothing to worry about," I assure her.
"But I want to see him right now," she says.
"Just wait," I tell her, being stern.
By the way, Cole Newton is Ellie's crush. They met over the summer at the park. Ellie was playing basketball while he was doing.......something. I don't know what he was doing. I'm not a stalker. Anyway, I guess they became friends. Ellie is that good with people. He gave Ellie his number and told her what school he was attending. I haven't met him in person. But, I know what he looks like. That's because they took a lot of selfies together. From those pictures, he has wavy, platinum blonde hair and golden eyes. There was a bandage on his right cheek and a hoop earring on his right ear. I notice that in the selfies that he only smiles when Ellie is next to him. Which makes me think that he likes her. I didn't tell her because, well, she is a big girl and she has to experience love on her own without my help. Also, Ellie would deny it.
The secretary finally shows up and hand us our uniforms. Our school uniform is a white collar shirt with a red bow tie and a navy blue knee-length skirt that comes with it. Our gym uniform is a simple white t-shirt that has the word 'Noble High' in the left corner. The wording is in red and there are blue sports shorts that go with it. The secretary lady also gives us our schedule, a map of the school and a student handbook. Plus all the textbooks that we need.
The secretary says, "I forgot to mention that in this school, the dorms will be shared. Charlotte, your dorm will be #204. Your roommate will be Amelia Harper. Ellie, your dorm will be #122. And unfortunately for you, you have to share with a guy-"
"WHAT!!!!!!!!!!" Ellie shouts, interrupting her.
"Why?" I ask her. The secretary ignores Ellie’s outburst and answers my question.
"Well, it's because of the number of students and the lack of room," she says, answering my question.
"Who is my roommate who happens to be a guy?" Ellie ask.
"Your roommate will be Cole Newton, Ellie. I know-" the secretary says, answering Ellie question.
"WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!" Ellie shouts, interrupting the secretary again. She looks over at Ellie and taps her fingernails on the desk, glaring.
"I'm sorry for my sister’s rude behavior, Mrs.....?"
"Mrs. Walker. Charlotte, I believe that my son is in the same grade as you. In fact, I'd like to ask you a favor. Can you watch over him for me? He recently runs into so much trouble. And you seem to be a lovely young woman," she says.
"Thank you for all your help, Mrs. Walker. I'll keep an eye out for your son. It's been a pleasure talking with you," I say politely.
"Thank you, Charlotte," she replies, smiling at me.
"Come on, Ellie," I say, dragging her out of the office.
As soon as the doors shut behind us, she shouts, "Charlotte, can you believe it!?! I have to share a room with Cole! I mean, if it was any other boy then I would've complained. But this is Cole! I can't believe it!!!" I check to make sure no one is around us. Fortunately, there isn't. I mean, today was our first day of school and I don't want my sister to get made fun of.
"Ellie, be quieter," I say.
"Sorry," she says sheepishly. She starts talking again but quieter. "But, Charlotte, what if Cole hates me! What if I embarrass myself in front of him?!" she says. All of her excitement is drained along with the color in her face. She's in panic mode now.
"Ellie, calm down. He’ll like you. If he didn't like you, then why would he give you his number? Also, my dorm is that way so goodbye." I ensure her.
"I'm still mad that we aren't roommates. Even though being roommates with Cole is going to be amazing," she states.
"Don't be mad. I have to go, so bye. And also use protection," I reply to her in a monotone voice, already walking away.
"Wha-Charlotte, I'm going to kill you!!!!!!!!" she shouts at me, blushing. But I was already gone, smiling to myself.
I climb up the stairs and go to my dorm. I wonder what life will be like living here. Then, I open the door to my dorm and gasp.
