As I awoke, I could tell I wasn’t alone. Fear immediately took hold of me when I remembered the events of yesterday. The hunters. My eyes sprung open and I started looking around furiously trying to figure out where I was.
“Easy little one.” I heard from my right. “It’s okay. You’re safe.”
I turned to see a young male fox with fur as orange as the sunset right before leaving the sky so the moon can rise. His eyes were a deep blue. He had a worried expression and I could tell he was scared as well.
“Where am I?” I could tell I was still in the forest, but how far away I was from the camp was hard to determine. The trees all looked the same. But I couldn’t remember any fox families nearby.
“I’m not sure… But there are humans that visit us a lot. In these loud metal boxes. They give us food… and they put these things on us.” He touched a collar on my neck.
Just realizing that I had a collar on, I stumbled back and clawed at it, but no matter how much I tried to get it off, it wouldn’t budge. “Why would they put this thing on us?” I growled. “I have to find my family. I have to see if they are ok.” I stood up and ran. I didn’t know where I was going, all I knew was that I needed to go home.
