Their days continued like that. It became routine to go to Madam Pomfrey and spend the night if Harry got a cut. At night, Harry would tell Draco of new memories he gained. After that he'd tell Draco about his dreams and wishes. Anything to make Draco smile. He didn't like how mad Draco seemed after hearing about his family.
"Hey Dwaco, can I dress up for Halwoween this year?" Harry asked a few days before the holiday. After Hermione explained the Muggle customs of dressing up, Draco laughed. "I don't see the point, but sure. Why not? We'll go to London and find you a costume next weekend, okay?" Harry smiled brightly. "Thank you!" He said.
By that weekend Harry was already 5 years old. Headmistress McGonagle gave Draco permission to visit London for the weekend, but Draco still had to floo to Hogsmead first.
They flooed to Hogsmead. Harry had been here before to get his pajamas, but he still couldn't get enough. Magic was everywhere. Draco held Harry on his back as they made their way through the thick crowds. "Alright Harry. Hold on tight and don't let go no matter what." Draco warned once they made their way to a clearing. Harry nodded and squeezed Draco as hard has he could making Draco chuckle. "Alright. 1. 2. 3." Draco and Harry apperated to London.
Once they were there Harry didn't feel good. "I don't wike that Dwaco. I don't wike that at awl." Draco chuckled again. "You get used to it." He said. "Dwaco. Where are we?" Harry asked. The room was dark and He didn't see many people around. "We are at the leaky cauldron Harry. Now remember the rules?" "Never weave your side. Don't wet go of your hand in pubwic. And no tawking about magic." Harry said proudly. Draco nodded. "Very good. Now, let's go." Draco held onto Harry's legs as the boy hung off the back of his neck and ran out of the bar. Making the little Harry laugh excitedly.
They walked through all sort of stores. Just looking mostly. Harry spotted a mall. "Dwaco! Dwaco! Can we go in there?!" Harry asked. "Sure. Off we go!" He said, running into the store. Draco put the boy down and held his hand. "My back is starting to hurt." He said.
Weaving in and out of stores, they found themselves in a big department store. "Wow!" Harry said. Even Draco was mildly impressed.
Harry ran straight to the Costumes. After 30 minutes of long and hard debate of 5 year old standards Harry decided he liked the Wizard and the Dark Angel. Draco was stuck too. Harry was a wizard and dressed like it every day, but the Dark Angel was a girls costume. Still, he kept saying the same thing. "You pick which ever one you like most." Harry huffed at him when ever he said that. "No hewp." The little boy pouted. Draco just laughed. Eventually Harry decided to go with the Dark Angel. Draco did end up talking the boy into wearing black pants instead of the black frilly skorts that came with the costume.
"Alright, now we had best get going. It's getting dark." Draco said looking out the skylight. "But Dwaco! We haven't found anyting for you yet! You have to get a cwool outfit too!" Harry explained. After some pointless banter with a 5 year old, Draco gave up and headed for the mens section with Harry skipping happily beside him.
They looked all over and tried on several different shirts. Harry had stopped at a rack when he saw a shirt he thought Draco would really like. After some struggle getting it off the rack, Harry ran to where he thought Draco was. "Draco! What about this!?" He asked excitedly. His eyes where closed as he listened for Draco's reaction.
"What the hell?!" A deep voice boomed. Harry's eyes shot open. "You're- yo- you're uncle Vernon." Harry whimpered out. "Uncle? Harry? What the fuck? Did one of your freaky spells go wrong or something? Why the fuck are you small again?" Vernon raged quietly. "I-I'm sorry. I just-" "Enough! I don't fucking care. Just know you're not staying with us. Freak! I don't care if you end up a street whore, if you show up on our doorstep again I'll make you wish you'd never been born boy. understand?" Harry nodded and was pushed to the ground by Vernon's foot.
Draco heard the sound of small whimpering and realized that Harry wasn't beside him. There was another voice. One he didn't recognize. Draco followed it to its source. "I don't care if you end up a street whore, if you show up on our doorstep again I'll make you wish you'd never been boy. understand?" He heard. What the fuck? Who was this? Draco turned to confront the voice when he saw a large man kick 5 year old Harry to the ground. He. Was. PISSED.
Draco picked Harry up and held him close. "You, must be his uncle." Draco said. "I'm Malfoy, Harry's friend." He said. "Ah! You're one of those freaks huh?" Vernon spat out. Draco glared. "Yep. And you must be one of those filthy heartless muggles who have no morals or ethics and see nothing wrong with being a worthless peice of shit?"
Vernon got mad and his face turned red. "What did you just say to me boy?" He asked. Draco fake gasped. "Oh, I'm sorry. Did I mumble? Silly me. I said you are a worthless peice of shit!"
Before anything else could be said a manager came over to intervene. "Excuse me sirs, but what seems to be the problem here?" She asked. Draco smirked a patented Malfoy smirk at Vernon before giving the girl a dashing smile. "Nothing's wrong. I just realized I forgot to take out the rubbish before I left the house." Malfoy said before walking a way.
Harry was still shaking by the time they left. "Shh. Harry, you're okay now. He's gone." Draco decided it would be best not to apprate with Harry in his state. So he got a room in a near by motel. Harry didn't say a word or let go of Draco the whole time.
In the room, Draco set Harry down on a bed, but the boy still wouldn't let go. "Harry. You can let go now." Draco said. Harry shook his head. After a few minutes Draco realized he wasn't going to win, so he just laid down next to Harry.
They made their way back to Hogwarts the next day. Harry still wasn't speaking. He didn't even react when a new bruise appeard on his body or when a slice across his hand formed out of nowhere.
Once they were in Hogsmead, Draco decided to do something for Harry. They went to the shreiking shack. He remebered Hermione once telling him that Harry liked to hangout there when he wasn't feeling up to anything else.
"Hey Harry. You know, tomorrow is Halloween. The Headmistress gave you and all your friends special permision to go trick ot treating with you." Still no reaction. Silence filled the room.
"I'm sorry." Harry said in a small voice. "I'm sorry I rwan off Draco. In the stwore." Draco just stared at him. "Is that what's been bugging you?" Harry shook his head. "No." He whimpered out. Suddenly, Harry looked like a was about to cry.
He did. "I-I'm sorry Draco. It- It was so s-scary!" The boy said, sobbing. Draco felt his heart break and he held the little boy close. "I didn't m-mean to run off! I- just thought- I'm sorry!" Harry sobbed for a good 15 minutes, destroying Draco's shirt.
"Shhh. Harry. It's okay. You're okay." Draco said, trying to sooth the sobbing boy. Eventually the crying stopped and Draco found a sleeping boy on his shoulder. He chuckled and started walking back to the school through the passage.
McGonagal met him at the other end. "Do you have any idea what time it is? Why didn't you just floo-" She was cut off by Draco shushing her amd pointing to the sleeping 5 year old he was holding. "Oh. Alright, I see. Come on you two. I'll escourt you back." Draco nodded wordlessly and followed the old woman.
In their room, Draco laid Harry's sleeping body on his bed and tucked him in. Then he laid down in his own bed. Oh Harry, what are you not telling me? Draco woundered. He knew there was something. Before he could dwell on the subject any longer, sleep over took the drowsy blonde.
