Okay….So let’s get the story straight, I live in a small city that may not be generally known to the outside world .This is mainly because we may or not be well cultured?... for the modern society. I actually grew up there and boy was it boring, to be quite frank I was tired of that life. It was so backward and honestly it felt like I was in the 1900’s.
So when I got a scholarship into a high ranking college, I couldn’t help but take it (because honestly who would want to live in this pathetic excuse of a town where the only source of entertainment would be the community theatre that has been closed for the past five years). With the acceptance letter safely enclosed in that sacred brown envelope and my heart beating a mile per minute, I dashed to my parent’s house (Yeah …I still live with my parents, So What?!)
I finally arrived after running for a whole 15 minutes , I didn’t even stop to take a breath of air .So it didn’t surprise me , When I nearly died of Oxygen deprivation and exhaustion when I rang the bell . My parents where honestly surprised to see me considering the fact that I should be at work and not standing on the front porch gasping for air under the hot summer sun. Their mouths hung wide open, as if they were trying to process what they were seeing, I didn’t wait for a response as I shoved the letter in my mother’s hands and let myself in.
“W..w..What’s this?” my mother managed to stutter, I rolled my eyes as I motioned for her to open the envelope. She hesitantly ripped open the envelope and read the letter, I expected a face that would somewhat be ecstatic but all I got was a face filled with disappointment. She began to laugh uncontrollably and motioned for my father who had being sitting quietly in the corner reading his newspaper to come forward. After he had read the letter, he too began to laugh as he swiped it from my mother’s hands.
“Y.y..ou, he managed to say , expect us to believe that you got a scholarship to one of the highest schools in the country?!” pointing it at my face
“Yes” I responded boldly
“Just tell the truth ….. I know this letter is fake” my mother whispered
“It’s not!” I said trying to defend myself
“You’re nothing but a failure and I know, you’re mother knows, everyone knows ….you can’t amount to anything!” My father screamed.
That was adding fuel to the fire, with that final insult I swiped the letter from my father’s grip and ran to the door, slamming it as hard as I possibly could before they could see the tears starting to form.
