Once I heard Leo's question. I froze. It was like every second that passed by felt like a million years. I close my eyes for a quick second. In a blink of an eye. Everything around me shifts. I'm back in my room. It's Tuesday Morning. The day Dylan went back home after everything. I open my eyes to find myself sitting up against the wall near my bed. I rub my eyes real quick, trying to wake myself up. Across is Dylan who's packing everything away into his bag. I didn't say anything at first. I sat there, staring at the guy. He didn't seem okay, but yet he didn't seem in any way not okay.
He turned around to find me looking at him. I quickly steer my eyes away from him. "Morning. Uhm, Henry."
"Morning." I respond back.
"So I guess I'm going home today. My mom told me that my father doesn't want to ever see you again though. I guess we'll never have dinner at my house again."
"Oh...what about you though? Is your father?"
"My dad works most of the time. We see each other less and less every day goes by. It doesn't matter anymore."
"Oh okay. I'm sorry about all that. I wish there was something I could do Dylan."
"So do I Henry. So do I." He stopped in place for a second. What does he mean? I don't know what else to say about anything to him. I look at his back as it's turned towards me.
"What do you mean?"
"Nothing." Dylan puts his last shirt into his bag, tossing it over his shoulder. He checks his phone and tells me that his mom is waiting in front of the house. He walks towards my bedroom door, but I have to say something before he leaves. I get up from my bed and turn him towards me. We stare at each other.
"I'm going to see you again right?" He asks. I glance down at my feet. I close my eyes before saying anything.
When I reopen my eyes I'm standing in my living room. Leo is sitting in front of me as I stand there. With no response. His question rings in my head. I didn't respond back to what he asked. I sit on my couch and he waits for an answer. I look at him and just shrug. His face is filled with disappointment. I tell him that he said I don't have to answer it. Leo sighs and I chuckle a bit.
I sink into my couch as Leo continues to peek at some of the photos. I finally say something, "I don't know, Leo."
"What?"
"I don't know what happened that night. Everything just happened so fast. Plus how do you even know?"
"I spoke with Damien a few days ago when Dylan finally came home. I know he was here for a few days. Why didn't you tell me? Is this why you weren't speaking to me?"
"What? God no Leo. I didn't even talk to him awhile he was over here. It was just awkward silence for the most part. And why do all of us talk to each other. You barely speak to Damien. How'd you get his number??"
"I emailed him though his school account."
"Oh."
"Yeah."
I'm an idiot. I didn't know we could do that. I do end up speaking to Leo about what happened. I didn't mention the whole kiss part, but I assume he knew it also because he made sure I get every detail out there. I tell him stop asking since he asks too many questions. Are you sure that's all you're talking about? Repeated over and over again as I go through my story. I tell him yes of course.
Leo seemed to have felt bad for all of us on that night. That's when Leo asked what time my mother comes home from the diner she works at.
"I don't know, I'll have to see." I look around for my phone and text her. Immediately she responds that she has to work overtime for someone else's shift. Basically she won't be coming back around midnight. I tell Leo the time and that's when he suggests we invite the twins over to hangout. We still got six hours or so to spare. I didn't really like the idea. If the twins were to come over to my house. I'd be fine if only one showed up. One or the either, I'll take it. Actually no. Just Damien. I can't see Dylan right now.
That'll be a lie though. When Dylan left to go home Tuesday morning. I told him I would see him in no time. All I can remember is him smile before he left my bedroom. I really hate him with every fiber of my being, but yet care about him like I've known him as long as I've known Leo. Everything is too much and I can't tell if it's me making it too much. I had to ask Leo.
"I...really don't know? Everything seems fine as it is to be honest. Maybe you are making this a bit much."
"Oh thank god you said that. I feel better knowing I'm some melodramatic person."
"Well I wouldn't say melodramatic, but yea sure. You do complain a ton."
"Okay, shut up. You're hurting my feelings now."
"Hey, you asked Henry. I'm merely giving feedback." He laughs, but I don't think it's funny.
Leo grabs his phone and begins texting away. I curl up in a fetus position and not think about the fact that he's inviting the twins right now to come over. I don't know how long he was typing, but it went on for a few minutes. I knew he was done when he slammed into the coffee table. I look up and he's smiling. I ask him why, but he doesn't anything. Then the door bell rings. Whoever he texted got here pretty fast. He points me to open the door and I get up. Slowly making my way over to the front door.
I opened the door and I'm greet by two girls hugging me. Alice and Janet were here. When they hugged me I was about to tumble over. The two let go of me and then proceed to slap me across the face. I rub my face as I'm sure is red with their hand prints.
"What the fuck was that for? Especially you Janet!"
"I don't know why I did that. Alice did it, so I thought I'd do it too."
Alice jumped in, "Boy, you better not be messing Dylan. Just because things are happening between you two. Doesn't mean he's talking to the rest of us. We're all friends here."
"Riiiigght. I just think it should between us two only."
Alice and Janet ignored what I said and waltzed into my kitchen. Immediately going through the fridge. I wouldn't mind if I knew they were coming, but they showed up unexpected. Leo kept teasing me about being slapped by the girls, so I ended up slapping him across the face. That's for having them come over without telling me I say. He rubs his face and walks back into the living room. The girls pull out some food and make a couple sandwiches.
"So what have you and your other boyfriend been up to?"
"Shut up. And we've been just hanging out. Nothing special." I explain.
"HE'S NOT TELLING EVERYTHING!" Leo shouted from the living room. "WE FOUND A COOL ASS CAMERA!"
"What kind of camera?" Janet asks. I tell the two girls to wait and run upstairs. I climb into my closet and search for the camera. It took awhile because my friends were getting impatient. I had no idea where he put inside this small ass closet. Eventually I did find it inside an old box filled with my science projects from middle school. I run downstairs and quickly make sure the camera was loaded, so I can take a photo of the girls.
I wait behind a wall and I hear Alice talk to Janet, "Henry has no game with either girls or guys. I won't be surprised Leo and Henry marry if the two can't get laid before they're twenty."
"Don't be like that Alice. I think Henry and Dylan will figure things out. Until then, the waiting game is all we can play."
"It's all we can play Janet. Someone needs to grow some balls and say something."
I couldn't believe that this is what they're talking about. Do I continue to eavesdrop on the two or take the picture? I turn my head to see Leo watching television. I guess he's too focused to hear the girls talk about the rest of us guys. I get the camera ready and jump out from the corner.
"There you are slow poke. What took you so long?"
"Sorry, I couldn't help, but wait awhile you talk about you two wanting Dylan and I to fuck already."
"That was all Alice and not me Henry."
"Whatever with the two of you. Just pose real quick."
I hold out the camera and they get ready for a quick shot. Janet tries to apologize for Alice's remarks, but I cut her off by telling them to say cheese. The two pose by holding onto each other. Peace signs raised up and big smiles on their faces. I point the camera and with a single click. The photo reels out. I shake the photo and shove it in my pocket to develop.
"Though I wasn't expecting more people to show and HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE THE LAST TIME!" I yell for Leo can hear me. Yelling sorry back to me. "I sure don't mind two more visitors on this lovely Friday afternoon. Get the popcorn ready. We're gonna binge watch movies the rest of the day."
