Alexandra laid sprawled out on the hammock, she was beyond tired. Til sat next to her on a chair, he was smiling, just talking about M*A*S*H, yes still.
P.S. Sorry the author has no life. She literally watches only supernatural, little house on the prairie and M*A*S*H. So yeah.
"So hey, what did you think about when Hawkeye gave Radar the purple heart?"
"Oh my God, I was so happy. That was like so cute, and it like made not only Radar's day, but like his whole life. I think it's just so great that Radar looks up to him like that. But seriously, I hated Hawkeye for some of that episode."
"Speaking of purple hearts, did you know that a veteran gave one to Brantley?"
"Oh, yeah, I watched that video. I love Brantley's music. Honestly I love the music of everyone here."
"Hey bud, we have to get going."
"No Luke, I have seriously no friends, you can not take him away."
"Sorry sweetie, but the boys would miss him. They really like having him around. Til, meet me at the truck in one minute, or no mudding tomorrow." Luke walked away.
She took Til's phone from his hand, and scrolled down to add new contact. She typed in her name and set a silly ring tone, and she quickly took a selfie and set it as the contact picture. "Call me." She smiled as he walked off, also smiling.
Later that night, everyone was gone, and Xandra decided to be mean to Chris. "Hey dad."
"Yeah?"
"I'm pregnant."
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"With a food baby. Yeah, there's a burger baby growing inside me."
"You're grounded till you're married."
"Ha, I'm sorry dad, I just had to. You should have seen your face."
"So you're not pregnant."
"That would be a miricle considering I'm a virgin."
"Good. I don't have to kill off the male population now."
"Dad, my burger baby wants a sundae friend to play with."
"Ok, get your shoes on, we'll go to ice cream plaza."
"Yay, ice cream!" She wrestled to get her shoes on, and ran to the door bouncing up and down.
"Oh, and I have connections, so I can get you extra sprinkles."
"Oh, and who might your connection be?"
"None of your business." He started driving.
"Oh, so my suspicions are correct. I see, It must be a girl."
"I will turn this truck around."
"Dad, if you have a lady friend I can know."
"Do you have a manly friend?"
"I have Til now, but he's not the kind of friend you're talking about. So no."
"But you want Til to be more, I can see it written on your face."
"Dad, stop." She laughed. "I don't feel comfortable sharing my love interests with you."
"Come on, you can tell me anything." They pull up outside ice cream plaza. "Behold, the best ice cream sundaes in all of Georgia."
"Oh I am so ready for an ice cream food baby."
Chris laughed as the stepped up to the window. "Hi Chris." The shorter woman with long strait blond hair and blue eyes smiled at him."
"Hi Katy. This is Xandra, I adopted her."
"Oh Chris, she's beautiful. You made a great choice. Pleasure to meet you Xandra."
"Nice to meet you too Katy."
"So Chris, the usual?"
"Oh, so dad, you're on usual order basis huh?"
"Yes Katy, and Xandra, you will be struck in your room all day tomorrow if you don't stop."
Katy walked away to get their orders. "Oh my God dad, you're blushing."
"Xandra, please, don't embarrass me. It's hard enough with her not liking me back."
"Did she say that?"
"Well, no."
"Then what if she does?"
"Well, I don't know."
"Order up."
"Dad, ask her to come over for a cook out saturday. Don't worry, I'll handel it, I'll invite a few people. Luke, Til, the boys and Caroline. We'll have fun."
"What if she says no."
"Well if you don't give her the chance to say no, she'll never say yes."
Chris walked over to the window, and took the two sundaes from Katy. "Hey Katy, we're having a little cookout on saturday. Would you like to come?"
She smiled. "Well if it won't be a bourdon, I'd love to come."
"Great, Saturday at one PM. You know the address."
"Great, I'll be there."
"Oh, and bring a bathing suit if you swim."
"Great, I have this really cute lace bikini that would be perfect."
He felt heat rushing to his cheeks. "Okay, see you there." He walked away, wondering if she was just hitting on him.
Chris sat beside Xandra and handed her her sundae." "How'd it go?"
"She said yes, and told me about her lace bikini." Alexandra choked on the ice cream in her mouth. "What?"
"Dad, she likes you." He just stared at her, a scared look on his face. "Dad, did you hear me? She likes you! That's a good thing."
"Is it?" She stared at him, didn't he like Katy? "Xandra, what if I can't love. What if I don't know how?"
"Dad, you can ground me after I say this, but I call bull shit." He stared wide eyed at her, unable to speak. "Dad, the day I told you about my parents, and what happened to them, and how much it hurt. You did what a dad should do. You loved me. You showed me how much you love me, and you held me. Dad, you can love. It's a different kind of love, your love for me, and your love for her, but I can see that you do love her."
"How do you know?"
"The way you blush when she talks to you. The way you're tapping your legs with your fingers as I talk about it."
"Am not!" I'm not going to argue with you. Dad, I realized, I cant pretend not to love you, because denying it literally hurts. And that little ache in your stomach is the feeling that you're missing something. Dad, if you can be happy, why not choose to be happy?"
"God Xandra, why are you so insightful?"
"It comes from having nothing and wanting everything. Well now I have everything I ever dreamed I would have and more. Dad, don't give up. Give it time. At the cook out, try to get to know her."
"You're right."
"I just realizes something. We're at an ice cream place at one in the morning."
"Oh, yeah. She stays open late so she can get money from the drunks. The bar's right down the street."
"Smart. You can learn a thing from her."
"What?"
"Take what you can get, even if the wait is painful."
"Okay, I nee to get you to bed, let's go." She takes one more bite of her ice cream, and runs in the direction of the truck. She stops and glares at Chris. He sighed, and walked over to the window. He put a five dollar bill in her tip jar, and winked at her. "See you saturday." Katy smiled and started to blush as she looked down at the floor. Chris got in the truck and started the engine. He smiled, and glared at Xandra. "Don't say anything."
"Go dad!" She giggled.
