(Chris Young) The Man I Want To Be

Chapter Nine

Chapter Nine

Aug 25, 2018

Xandra woke late the next day, usually she's up early, but Chris knew she was tired, so he let her sleep in. She walked over to her dad, smiling, trying to at least. "What's up buttercup?"

"I just realized, I have a full p.o. box, and I haven't uploaded lately. You wanna star in my video?"

"Yeah. Do we have to go by the post office first?"

"Yeah, and I'm warning you. They called, the room is full of stuff."

They just put the last of the stuff in the back of the truck. "Wow... You weren't kidding."

"I know. I'm thinking we should do a cover first too."

"Well duh." They laughed.

She set up her camera and sat on the bed. Chris was standing behind the camera. "Hi everybody! You're probably wondering where I am, well, I got adopted. I know, I'm psyched too. The best part is who adopted me. You all know him, he's awesome, he's a great singer, he's Chris Young. Dad come on out here."

Chris sat beside her on her bed, smiling at the camera. And gave her a hug. "Hi everybody. So, let's get started with that song."

"I walk in on Friday nights

Same old bar, same burned out lights

Same people and all the same faces

So why in the hell does it feel like a different place?

Meet my friends for a girls' night out

Seems there ain't much to talk about

Same drinks that we're all raising

But all of the toasts just don't feel the same

We used to be the life of the party

We used to be the ones that they wished they were

But now it's like they don't know how to act

Maybe they're like me and they want us back

It's like there's always an empty space

Those memories that nobody can erase

Of how bright we burned

Well now it hurts, but it's true

When they think of me, they think of you

They keep asking how I am

But they're really asking where you've been

I can read between all of the lines

It ain't just us missing all of the times

We were to be the life of the party

We used to be the ones that they wished they were

But now it's like they don't know how to act

Maybe they're like me and they want us back

It's like there's always an empty space

Those memories that nobody can erase

Of how bright we burned

Well now it hurts, but it's true

When they think of me, they think of you

Ain't it funny how a flame like that

Oh whoa, when they think of you

It can burn when it's in the past

We used to be the life of the party

We used to be the ones that they wished they were

But now it's like they don't know how to act

Maybe they're like me and they want us back

It's like there's always an empty space

Those memories that nobody can erase

Of how bright we burned

Well now it hurts, but it's true

When they think of me, they think of you

Oh, they think of you

When they think of me

Baby, baby, oh

When they think of me, they think of you"

"Alright everybody, that's it for today... You thought." They laughed.

Xandra picked up the first box. "Lets get into this p.o. box opening Xandra.

"Sure thing dad." Chris was telling stories the whole time to all the listeners out there while Xandra opened the first box. "Simon S. sent... oh my gosh, he sent me a five disk Randy Travis cd collection. Some of my favorite songs are on here. Thank you so much Simon. It says here that you have a channel, I'll go ahead and give you a subscription and put the link in the description below."

"Alright everybody, we're down to three boxes, and they're big ones." Chris smiled and handed one to Xandra. She used her cute guitar box cutter to open it, she had a matching letter opener.

She smiled, and laughed. "Oh my goodness. Dad, Edward wants to kill me. It's a whole box of junk food and candy. Thank you Edward, this will last me a month." She opened another. It was tall, she opened it and there were four posters in it. "Thank you so much. You asked me not to say your name on camera, so I'll just say thank you. And I'll go ahead and give you a subscription on youtube."

"Alright, last one everybody. This deserves a dramatic guitar solo." Chris picks up Xandra's sparkly pink guitar and started playing as she opened it.

"Oh my God, I was saying that I wanted to learn piano. Thank you so much Jackson. And you gave me a book of piano music, thank you so much. I will definitely be waking the neighbors today." Her and Chris started laughing. "Alright everybody, that's all for today. Thank you so much for all the stuff, and as some of you may know, my birthday is in a week, so I'll make a video of some sort. As always, be happy and be kind. I love you all, bye for now..." Chris turned off the camera and looked to her.

"Xandra..."

"Dad, I know you want to talk about last night, and I just cant... okay."

"Okay."
