The CEO's daughter was heavier than I anticipated, not that I have much practice picking up children. All of my recent working out payed off though. I was stronger than ever. Once I had pulled of my disappearing act, by slipping into a corner that was only noticeable if you looked for it and heading off before the cops could backtrack, I put the girl down long enough to gag and blindfold her. Luckily, shock had kept her silent until then, but I could count on that for long.
Keeping to the shadows, I made my way to the nearest subway entrance. The city had had the tunnels carved out years before, only to run out of money. As a result, the project was scrapped and the entrances sealed. That is, until I made hidden holes in most of them. Supposedly, no one had been in the tunnels since they were closed, but people obviously didn't realize how resourceful the city's homeless population was.
I scampered through the unused subway, turning corners I knew all too well. Far from any entrance, at the end of a tunnel that was never finished, I found things just as I had left them. An iron pike was drilled deep into the ground and cemented in place. A single, heavy chain connected to the top, snaked its way to the ground, and ended in a shackle. To this, I attached the girl. From her place, she could reach a pitcher of water I had left her and lay down relatively comfortably. I left a single, long candle burning. She would have light until it reached it's end. The last thing I did was to remove her gag and blindfold. All I said to her was, "Don't scream. You'll wear yourself out and no one will hear you." Back down the tunnel about forty feet, I turned a corner and slipped through a hole into the basement of the school. I worried a little that it might be discovered, but I had a hard time finding the opening even knowing where it was. Just as I reached the edge of earshot, I heard the girl start crying. My feet almost turned me back, but I stopped. I knew when I started playing this game that it would lead me to some hard choices. To choose my future over her happiness, that was only the beginning.
