I was so surprised. I didn't expect him to say that. And to be honest, I'm not exactly sure how I feel. I stand in the kitchen, watching as he laughs with his family. He's definitely cute. He's kind and caring. But I just moved here, and having a relationship as soon as my family settled in would be unusual. Lost in my thoughts, I didn't notice Lance watching me. Everyone laughed and bonded and ate. The party ended at ten, when his sister fell asleep on the couch.
Lance walked over to me. "So, I guess I'll see you around, right?"
I laughed and replied, "Well since we're neighbors, I think we'll have to!" He laughed and put his hand out. I shook it and he waved to me as he left. Laughing behind my hand, I headed to my room and found the way blocked by my mother.
"So," she said casually. "What do you think of the new neighbors?" I coughed nervously.
"They're alright. A very happy and big family." I smiled what I hoped was a convincing smile.
My mom looked at me closely and hummed thoughtfully. "Alright. Just don't embarrass me by running into your room again." I nodded and inched past her to my room. Once inside, I closed the door and sighed.
"What am I going to do?"
