"Hey," I said when she answered the door.
"Who are you?" she asked.
"Keith. You're Pidge. You know Lance."
"That I do. Come in." She was a small girl with mousy hair and intelligent eyes. "Alright," Pidge said. "What problems are you having?"
I sighed. "Well, yeah, I like Lance. But he's so...kind and giving...and I'm...not." Pidge looked at me like I was an idiot.
"Come on, dude. If you want him go get him." She tilted her head at me. "Wait a minute, how did you find out where I lived?"
"I asked Lance's mom who his friends were. It doesn't matter, because I came here to ask for Lance's number."
She snorted. "Fine. But promise you'll actually use it!"
I smiled. "I make no promises. Thanks." I left and walked back home, only to find my mom waiting at the door.
"Hey sweetie," she said. "I bought tickets to a boat tour tonight. Mantas By Moonlight. We can see some new people there, and..." she looked at me closely. "Our neighbors run the boat tour."
"That sounds interesting. Thanks Mom!" I edged past her and into the house. "Anyways, just call me when it's dinner time." I walked into my room as she peered after me suspiciously. I closed the door, opened my phone, and texted Lance. Well, attempted to text him. "Hey, it's Keith." I texted. A new message popped up almost immediately.
"Keith! How's it going?" I smiled.
"Good, man! According to Mom, we're going on a boat tour tonight." I winced at the 'man' but sent it anyways. It took him five minutes to respond and when he did, it seemed like he was...scared?
"Oh, really? Ok, well then, I have to go and help out see you then bye!" I shut my phone off with a disappointed sigh.
"Oh well. At least I'll see him tonight."
