The Magical Anthem 1: Earth

Episode 4

Episode 4

Sep 05, 2018

"Come on, La! Five minutes left until Miss Anna will get into our class."

Me and Lani run faster, in a hurry because of Miss Anna.

Miss Anna is my biology teacher. Since biology is my favourite lesson, I'm not really scared of Miss Anna. If you act nice to Miss Anna, then she will act the same way at you. But if you act rude to her, then you'll get the consequences. Sometimes, Miss Anna can make me laugh with my friends. But when Miss Anna is serious, then the whole class will be in silent, no sound. Because all students are tense.

We finally reach the front of the class. When we are about to get in class, there's someone walking behind us with a familiar shoe thumps.

"Lani, Afya. What are you two doing outside the class when the bell rings?"

We both look back. I swallow my saliva. It's Miss Anna! We're doomed.

"But, the entrance bell hasn't sounded yet--"

The bell rings before Lani finished her sentence. "Miss Anna..."

"Both of you, don't go to class. Stay outside of class during biology."

We're so doomed. Must be out of class for three hours? What will I do with Lani in such a long time?

After we're "punished" by Miss Anna, even before we get in class, Miss Anna  walks with her loud shoe thumps on the corridor floor.  I'm sure that my friends in class have heard the classical shoe thumps of Miss Anna in there.

"Ready! Stand Up!" Class leader gives the cue to the whole student in class.

"Greetings to our teacher!" The second cue from the class leader.

"Good morning, Miss Anna!" the students in my class shouted. Miss Anna reply to that greeting.

"Okay, students. Put up your homework. I will check your homework." Miss Anna shouted.

"If you didn't do homework, stand outside the class!"

Miss Anna's voice was heard in my ear, and Lani. I feel sad. I've finished that homework since a week ago. My effort is meaningless.

"I'm lucky, Afya. I haven't do my homework and I forgot the book too." Lani exhale her breath softly while rubbing her chest.

A few minutes later, two more people came out of my class. Who came out was my other best friend, Zandar, along with Jayden.

Zandar immediately approached me and Lani. While Jayden, the quiet one immediately stands right beside the the class door.

"Why do you get out of class?" I asked Zandar.

Lani chuckles. I elbow her, whispered, "That's not good, Lani! Zandar is our friend."

"I forgot to do biology homework. Miss Anna immediately told me to get out of class with Jayden.

"Why don't you do the biology, Zan?" I asked.

"Cause I have lots of problems for the past week, Afya." Zandar straightly replied, without any tone.

    Zandar explain his problems, extensively.

"Oh, we see," Lani and I answered together.

But, there's something I don't understand--besides my powers that I keep secret until now. Why is Jayden--the quiet one still stood near the door for the past ten minutes. Without saying any words.

"Hey, Jayden!" I called him. Jayden turns around, stared at me a few seconds.

"Eh. W-Why do you just stand there?" I'm still awkward talking to him. He rarely speaks in class. Moreover, according to the class secretary, Jayden only speaks at most three times a day. I never heard his voice.

Jayden that supposed to answer me turned around instead, back to his first position, stands up next to the class doo r, doesn't complain. Looks like his legs was made out of rock, not tired to stand like that.

    One hour passed.

Me, Lani, and Zandar already being tired of standing since fifteen minutes ago. We sitted on a bench behind us. We chat, trying as hard as possible so that our voices are not heard in the classroom. I can only stare in confusion at Jayden who's been standing for one hour straight. Either have to be amazed by his ability, or think about the way he did it.

"Lani, Zandar. Hasn't Jayden been established since the last hour? Doesn't he feel tired? "I whispered.

"If I were him, I would have been sitting in this chair since before." Lani commented. If asked honestly, I agree with Lani's opinion. How could he stand without complaining for a full hour. He doesn't move at all — like a rock.

After we talked about Jayden who was still standing next to the entrance to the classroom, we decided to get back to our feet after sitting for about half an hour. I feel unfair if we are sitting while Jayden continues to stand for the last hour and a half. Looks like his legs are really made of stone.

"La, I want to go to the toilet."

"Okay, but don't be long." Lani answered. I stood up, walked towards the toilet.

Actually, I'm lying. I want to go to a school "secret area" that not many people know. I know that "short cut" is when a classmate is trying to skip school. Accidentally, I followed them and I caught those who tried to skip. They also offer their "exit" keys. I received it. And since then, they have never been seen again.

I took the key and opened the "exit".

"I think I have to practice it again," I'm planning to make a ball of light for the second time in my life. I concentrate, and formed a light ball handful over the palm of my right hand. Once again, my hands shine. Exactly the same time as the beach incident, four years ago.

When I was concentrating, suddenly there was a memory that I should still remember, but instead I evicted it. It's been eight years. The voice in the oldest museum's jewelery room in the city explained about this necklace was still fresh in my memory. And right on this day this necklace is eight years old.

When my memory of the necklace has returned, I concentrate more and more on making balls of light. My hands are getting more radiant. I also raised my left hand around the ball of light in my right hand.

The longer, the ball of light enlarges and is more radiant.

That ball of light is as big as a soccer ball. I opened my eyes, saw the ball of light I had made. My heart also glows.

My hands also began to glow. At least, my light ball is still brighter than my hand. I feel weird if my hand is brighter than the ball of light I make.

"Do I have to try to use my power here?" It crossed my mind to try my powers in that secret area. As long as no one has seen me yet.

I began to concentrate. I raised my hands and opened them. Twenty seconds later, two golden balls of light formed, floating above my palm.

"It turns out it's not that difficult to make two light balls at once." I managed to make two light balls at once. I passed the second phase of my strength.

    The next stages await me.

My strength will continue to grow. I'm very sure of that.

When I still have two balls of light above my hand, there is a snake that is out of nowhere. The snake looks exactly the same as the sea snake on the beach next to the city. Four years ago. Who wants to attack me.

"Why do I feel that this snake who used to want to attack me on the beach? Isn't the distance between the beaches in the next city and my school ten kilometers away? "I was confused.

If it is the same snake, then it must have come here for revenge.

I think defeating snakes the same way I used four years ago will work, but I'm wrong.

"I have a bad feeling for this snake." I made a ball of light and then directed it, right at the snake. But, the snake immediately dodged quickly from my light ball. I shouted in restraint.

I swallowed hard. How about this? If I can't use the same method to repel this snake, what method should I do?

Suddenly, it occurred to me in the biology lesson Miss Anna taught a few days ago.

"Children, do you know how to get rid of an approaching snake?" Miss Anna asked.

    Students shook their heads.

"Okay, kids. I'll tell you the most powerful ways to get rid of snakes. "All students immediately raised their notebooks and pens on the table. Get ready to write material.

"There is a simple trick to repel snakes from before you. Enough with a tool or something that can bring out light will save you from snake attacks. The method is very easy. Aim the light towards his eyes. Light makes the eyes of the snake glare. You will have time to search for stones and throw them into a snake for about six seconds. The target of your stone is the snake's head. If you throw correctly, then you will make the snake go away because you feel it will be in danger if you are near you.

All right, hopefully the simplest way Miss Anna taught me to succeed. I will try to make a very bright ball of light to dazzle the snake's eyes.

I began to concentrate while raising my hands. Two seconds, a light ball the size of a soccer ball formed again. This time I was determined in my heart.

I've made the brightest ball of light with all my energy. I increase my concentration, making the ball of light the size of a soccer ball more radiant. My light is getting brighter, like the new sun rising from the east horizon of the earth.

The snake seems to realize that the area is getting brighter. He began to crawl into a bush. I won't let the snake run away. It could be, he would harm me or other students in my school if he was around here.

I immediately took the nearest stone, and threw it right at the snake's head. I'm lucky. The stone that I threw was right about the snake's head. The snake immediately "looked down" at me. His eyes showed that he was moaning in pain. I feel sorry for the snake. I really like animals - even though they sometimes want to hurt me, they are still living beings. They just want to defend themselves.

I approached the snake. Try to make it calm. Immediately, I stroked the snake's head. The snake doesn't rebel. In fact, his eyes were sparkling. Without me knowing it, my hand glowed.

When I stroked the snake's head, I felt like I lost my consciousness. The snake's soul felt as if he wanted to enter my mind. Suddenly, we were both in a beautiful place. We look at each other. The snake looked at me with authority, looked down respectfully at me.

"Thank you, princess. You still feel empathy for me even though I wanted to hurt you for revenge four years ago. I will always remember you for healing me with your warm touch. "The snake spoke in a soft and friendly voice. I can't believe, a snake just spoke to me?

"I will repay your kindness, princess. In the right place at the right time. " The snake raised its head. I immediately walked over to him, stroking his head again. His mouth looked smiling as I stroked his head again.

I returned to the real world. My hand still stroked the snake's head. When the snake will leave, he once again bows respectfully to me. And then go into the bushes. I ran to the bushes that the snake entered. When I checked the bushes, the snake was gone. Lost somewhere. Just like his arrival which I don't know where exactly.

"I feel something's approaching," My necklace glowed again. Like giving me a sign.

My necklace glowed with orange, which I never saw.

Suddenly, I heard the sounds of unfamiliar shoe thumps. The shoe thumps were getting closer, coming from behind me.

"Bravo, Afya. Bravo! " That person's voice I didn't recognize. That person clapped several times.

I was very surprised when I turned around, seeing the person who first saw me take out a ball of light from my hand. I never expected him to be the first to know my biggest secret.
