The stars shined bright on the clear night sky. There was a field with countless flowers and great oaks that rose up to the skies above and were older than the Memory of Time. On the field there was a girl, walking alone in the night. Her long hair, bright red like roses in the summer, was braided into a thin long braid. Her dress, as white as snow, glimmered in the moonlight like the moon itself. There were no birds around and only sound to be heard was the howl of a soft innocent wind.
She walked, there, in a calm blue night, caring about nothing but her own dreams of castles and stories of a land far beyond the Wall. I wasn’t for long that she noticed a certain tension around her. It seemed like the stars wanted to lead her somewhere.
As she walked through the sea of flowers, she heard a voice, calm and beautiful, calling her name from above. "Melody...." it whispered, and a big glance of light rose up to the sky. In a second or so the girl realized she began moving faster and faster towards the light, just like an invisible force was pulling her towards it. Was it a curse or just her curiosity, that might never be revealed, but that did not bother her. The girl continued to walk towards the light.
As she reached the spot from where the light dashed up to the skies above, she saw a rose, the Queen of the Flowers. It seemed like a rose was the source of that calm voice which lead Melody there. "Melody...." the voice whispered again. It did indeed come from the fragile creation of nature. But how? And most importantly, why? Soon the girl heard her the same voice again. " Come closer, Child of Light..." Melody never felt so many emotions at the same time. Her heart was filled with thrill, excitement, fear and curiosity. That is an awful lot for a 13 year old little girl, despite the fact that she was a young wizard. Those types of emotions are very common to children of her age, yet she felt like never before.
There was some sort of divine magic that filled Melody with energy while she listened to the voice of the Flower queen. "I need you to listen carefully, my child. Soon the prophecy of the Ancient Light will begin. There is no way to stop that but fear not, Child of Light, for the Light will come and speak the words of Restoration in the face of Evil. After the Shadow will completely cover this world, three days must pass before the words shall be spoken. Remember those words Melody, for the fate of Endora might even be in your hands..." and then the voice disappeared, just like fog disappears from fields in the early morning.
"What words? Who are you anyways?!" Melody was confused. She was so deep in her thoughts that she didn't even realise that everything around her started to fade away. After few seconds of analysing the situation, she yelled: "WHAT WORDS?!"
The classroom filled with laughter. It took Melody few seconds to realise what was going on. Ofcourse. It was a silly dream, just like thousands of others she had during her life. Soon a calm voice spoke. Despite the fact that whole classroom was filled with laughter, the voice rose above all, but it did not sound like yelling. “Melody, dear. In order to become a noble wizard, you simply must not fall asleep in the middle of the lesson. I highly recommend that you would sleep at night, instead of running around in forests and catching fireflies.”. Amount of laughter rose even more. Melody was embarrassed like never before. Why does Professor Orion hate me so much, she thought. "I do not understand you. You are the one who came here, you did everything to pass the entrance exam, and now you sleep in the middle of a lesson as if your graduation paper is in your pocket. Don't you want to be like the Grand Wizard of Nightwatch?" said the teacher. The only thing melody could do was to remain silent. There was only one thing she hated more than professor Orion’s lessons. To be compared with her sister.
The bell rang and all students rushed out of the classroom, except for Melody. She was the last one to walk out. Her face was headed down and her hair covered half of it. What a shame, and the worst part is yet to come. After a while of walking in the ancient halls of Zancrow, Melody decided to stop for a while. What is she going to do now? Perhaps Casandra doesn’t know yet, and Melody will have time to think. Suddenly, Melody heard a sound in the hallway. It sounded like wind, but there was no wind inside. Soon the sound of wind was followed by a voice, a voice that called for the girl, again and again. Just as in her dream, Melody decided to follow the call. One after another she passed through hallways and small gardens in the inner yard, where Mrs. Hollow loves to give her lessons on florology. She walked faster and faster, as she felt that the voice was getting closer with every step. Melody felt like she walked for eternity and suddenly she felt a hand grabbing back of her jacket. “Now, where do you think you are going, young sleeper?”. Crap. The hand belonged to the head of royal guard and Melody’s sister, Casandra. “Hi, sis.” Melody mumbled. “ Don’t you ‘sis’ me young lady! I would understand if this would’ve been your first and only mistake. But unfortunately it’s not”. Casandra spoke with a strangely calm voice. Maybe she predicted the incident, or maybe she was just tired.
“I’m sorry”
“Sorry?” Casandra sighed “Is that the only thing you can say? Mel, I don’t understand you. Two years ago you were willing to study nights just to get into this academy. What’s gotten into you?” Melody nodded in despair “I understand sis, but they don’t teach me anything good. I mean, everything they teach us now is the same as last year. I know this already. Why can’t I get a new teacher?!”. The look in her eyes was priceless. It was a look of someone who wanted to go on, someone who wanted to explore. Casandra grinned a little and patted Melody on the head, slightly messing with her hair. “Let’s go kid. We’ll talk about this later”.
