Harry followed McGonagal to her office. When they reached the Gargoyle she put her hands up.
"Jelly Grindlow"
He looked at her curiously. "Candy?" She sighed. "Yes well, he talked me into keeping up the tradition." Harry's eyes widened. As he followed her in and he immediately looked for Dumbledore's portrait.
The old coot smiled and Harry and nodded. "Harry my dear boy. It's good to see you. I hope you are happy to see me too." Yes, while Harry had been upset, and rightfully so, he had managed to forgive the old man once he's calmed down and came to his senses. He smiled and nodded before turning his attention to the desk.
"Wait, wasn't his portrait-" he pointed at the spot it had been, now it sat inside the office looking toward McGonagal. She nodded. "Yes well, there is a reason he was the best headmaster Hogwarts had ever seen, and it's hard to converse with him right there. He'll be moved back when I step down of course, but for now he'll stay there." Harry nodded when a groan sounded.
There was a black haired boy sitting in one of the seats. Harry was shocked having not noticed the boy yet. He didn't think he recognized him and sat down next to him.
He glanced at the boys face. 'Such a baby faced kid.' He thought. 'Wait a second!' He shot a panicked look to McGonagal. And she nodded.
"As I'm sure you are well aware, this is Professor Snape. He has just gotten back from getting a checked up. There is some bad news though. While they can give him some potions to increase his age a little, because of the contents of the potion, they can't bring him back to his original age right away. If at all. These potions, however, have side effects. I am told his magic will be greatly weakened." She stopped to look at Snape, as if asking him if he wanted to continue. He just glared.
Harry, took the chance to speak though. "Okay, but why am I here Professor?" She sighed. "Today at dinner, I was listening in on everyone's reactions. I noticed, you were the only one in the whole school who said nothing negative toward the Professor. Not only that, but you defended him against your friends." This earned a shocked look from Snape. "As such, you are the only one I can trust with this job." "With what job?" He asked, still confused.
Snape, who had instantly gone back to glaring and (honestly) pouting, growled. "Good grief Potter, use you brain. With my current state already puts me in enough disadvantage with students. With my magic weakened for who knows how long, I am put in danger. You may not have noticed, but I am not the most liked teacher at Hogwarts!" 'And who's fault is that?' Harry thought. Still, as he stared down at Snape, Dean's earlier comment floated through his head. 'He really does look like a cinnamon roll.' He thought.
His frown became forced before his amusement won out and he broke into a closed smile, trying to contain uncontrollable giggles. He hid his mouth behind his hand for good measure, but the damage was done.
Snape looked out right horrified. "SERIOUSLY POTTER!?" He exclaimed, having no clue what was going through Harry's head. Though that was probably for the best.
Once Harry was calm, he schooled his face into a serious one. "Sorry." He said. Cracking another quick smile before hiding it away again.
The headmistress continued. "Yes so... in short, this is what is being asked of you. You are to guard the professor 24/7 from your fellow classmates. You'll help him in his class while his magic is weak. If he needs you to do something, so long as it's not unethical, immoral, breaks the set rules for this agreement, or puts you in any danger, you must do it." She said that last bit while eyeing Snape. "That's all that would be asked of you. Any assignments you miss will be excused and you'll be given a copy of the notes when you go back to class. Also, if you do this, it will be put on your record. Should you still want to be an Aurora, experience in protection would get you far. You don't have to tell anyone of your deal and you'll receive a fair number of house points should you complete the task. So, do you except?" She said.
Harry sat there comparing his options. He thought for a good 15 - 20 minutes before even opening his mouth to speak. Though he wouldn't admit it, Snape was impressed the boy hadn't just Gryffindored his way through the situation.
Harry looked up and the headmistress and sighed. "If I really am your only option, then I'll do it." The headmistress nodded. "Would you swear to it?"
He eyed her. "Oh! No, it's not like the unbreakable vow. This, will just alert me, the one you swear to, if you break it. I decide the fitting punishment for the situation." She informed him. Harry nodded and stood up.
McGonagal pulled out her wand and mumbled some words. A light appeared. They went through a ritual much like the one for an unbreakable vow before she swished her wand through the air in a downward diangle and the light ceased. Leaving a golden glob-looking ball that split into two and hit both of them in the chest.
Snape groaned.
