-If so much time under constant pressure didn't make an effect in my abilities, how can you make one?
Claire still was in denial that they were accepted so easily into such a place. The wolf lair was not a welcoming place, but why did it feel that way? Perhaps it was the ammount of people that covered its soils, the way they danced to their destinations and sang as they worked, but this was not a tricky evil plan. Claire could sense their joy was authentic, yet she could not share the feeling. She wanted to enjoy it, she wanted to go down and sing and dance, but she didn't have the motivation. Her body refused to move.
-We're pretty similar. Well, not really, but we both have these things in our bodies we want to get rid of.- Onay scratched arround the left cheek, where the spirals and lines dazed for moments, yet never trully disapear.
-I still don't know what you can do. You killed Juniper's bird, and stabbed through a metal bomb like it was made of paper. How can I truly believe you won't do the same with anyone here? How can I believe you won't kill me?
-Why would I lower my number of soldiers?- Onay shrugged, playing with the mask which had been picked up from the floor of the tent.
Claire wanted to go out. Even if she would do nothing and not speak, it was a better option than being in a closed tent with such a being.
-Your friend, Charlie, right?- The leader continued. -He knows a lot about our... traits. But not fully. I mean, neither do I, and I believe each day will bring us someone who will amaze us just like the first. But I need to make sure you know how to use your power. Juniper, she can make a animals with ease, let's not even speak about how easily and gently Charlie made the bomb, which I trust would have exploded. You, Claire, you have no idea how you work.
-Gee, thanks.
-I want to help you with that objective. I show you and explain how I work, and we can try to find similarities. Win win situation, and you will make a fine soldier.
Claire frowned and pulled back.
-I'm not sure I want to be a soldier. Is everyone here aware you want them to be that?- Claire sometimes disliked hard choices, but she was completely sure she didn't want someone else to choose such an important decition.
-Yes. Some came here years ago, few, but still years. We have not just appeared, we've existed through the ages. We have only come out to the light because of a mistake of mine.- Onay would not hide the truth, Claire could see from her determined stare she was not the type to lie, but that only left the option of hiding the truth. Nobody is fully honest.
-What mistake?
But she realized she had hit a sensitive place once the leader turned. Onay's pupils, their white, shattered spots, shone brightly reflecting the water that accumulated in them.
-Arround two months ago, the news spread when my mind went blank. I was so confused I decided to relax, but I can never do that. The moment my mind is empty,- Onay snapped.- Something goes terribly wrong. Like the moment a full building vanished without a trace. The moment Program Imaginaria started, and everyone who had displayed some type of similar behaviour was taken prisioner inside closed walls. The few ones that were here for fun suddenly realized how protected this place was, away from everyone and everything. The place that was innitialy used as to not damage anyone when we imagined, became the place to protect us from those who hunt us from dreaming.- The tears finnaly dropped.
Claire had barely listened to anything after Onay addmited how everything started. She wanted to jump and protest, to scream and fight, to hurt and run. Everything could have gone smoothly for her if this person had not done that one mistake. She would probably be at a hospital, but at least be with her family. Not in the wild, surrounded by strangers after running away from a place that would eventually suck the soul out of her.
The purple haired freak slid her finger under her hair and pulled it back, letting her eye revealed.
One half was normal, just like her other eye, but the other was terryfying. Just as when inverting a picture, her pupil shone bright white, and her eye's white became coal black. Her purple iris transformed abruptly into a sickening yellow, and even her eyelids seemed to dissapear unless the light hit them, showing they were actually there. Claire could see fully again, and she could stare at Onay's look of confusion.
-Why would you hide something as wonderful as that?
But Claire did not want to listen to any compliments. She concentrated with both her eyes, and imagined. She imagined Onay's hair being torn appart from inside itself, cutting violently by an unknown force, and vanishing into the distance. The leader's eyes being closed shut, not damaged but tortured into darkness. The so decorated scars arround the body would twist and burn like cuts being opened after a long time of trying to heal, and Claire was afraid of herself for thinking that.
Onay coughed into their hand, and when revealing it, it was poisoned with the wicked colour of blood. But they didn't complain like Claire would have done, in fact, they chuckled.
-Then I guess emotion is your fuel. Let's get you able to change bodies by tonight.
