Lyria Abell
I could hear the arguing from the second floor. I was refilling all the toilet rolls in all the bathrooms since Ansel had been busy with the flower shop the last couple weeks and didn't really have time for his other chores. The arguing seemed to stop and then I heard footsteps heading up the stairs. That was my cue to leave I shut off the bathroom light and then headed up the stairs to the third floor. I went to Elios’s room. The room was dark from the window shades being drawn. Elios was laying on his bed unmoving which was not a surprise. I remembered when he and his family used to visit, all happy and merry. I know it made Maudie very happy. I also remember when we got the call, Maudie immediately running for the car keys not bothering to explain to me and Eric just watching her go not knowing what was going on till later that night when she explained that there had been a accident and that she was now Elios’s guardian. I walked over to the shades and opened them sunlight streamed in casting rays on the white bed frame and making Elios’s white hair silver. He had multiple bookcases next to his bed under his window just tall and wide enough that multiple succulents and cacti thrived on the top shelf. I stuck my finger in the first planter’s dirt, finding it dry I went to the bathroom opening the cabinet under the sink pulling out a small watering can. I filled it with cold water and then returned to his room. I poured water on all of the plants then set the can down. I then pulled the book I had been reading to him off the shelf. I pulled out the chair from his desk sitting on the opposite side of the room. Slowly I sat down and opened the book “My side of the Mountain” by Jean Craighead George. We were at chapter five I don't know if it helped but I hoped it did at least in some small way.
