Ties That Bind

18. awful for who?

18. awful for who?

Sep 20, 2018

She said it like it was the easiest thing in the world to do so casually put when really in actuality that made it even harder for me. Because gay or not Conrad was still Conrad Beaufort and I was still…well me.

"You're up early." Cordelier said joining us on the kitchen island. Tess pressed her phone screen one last time before she blurted “and I still can’t believe you’re lesbian?”

"Yup a big ol dyke" Cordelier laughed climbing up on the island.

Tess directed her next statement at me even though her whole demeanor was focused on the other Beaufort twin “most girls in our school come out as bisexual or pan…so.” She swept from me back to Cordelier “Lesbian?” she snickered playfully.

Cordelier scrunched up her nose thoughtfully “yes but at least some of those bisexuals break stereotypes you know.”

They joked around for a couple more minutes talking about some show that’d disappointed them last night. Obviously Tess and Cordelier had gotten some girl time last night after we got home and from the way they were acting comfortable and casual around each other I took to it that they’d gotten along just fine unlike Conrad and I who shared an awkward time in the dining room waiting for his room to be set free from the decorators supplies.

Tess looked down at her buzzing phone and apologized “sorry that’s my friend at the intercom, gotta go get her kids. You’re on babysitting duty.” She pointed at me leaving the room and I made sure she heard me complaining about this. Tess and her friends had terrible habits of making me babysit them at parties and now that one of them was married with children they made me babysit the kids so her husband wouldn’t know she’d gone out to play.

"Where are your parents, we have to thank them." Conrad asked entering the kitchen a fraction of a minute after Tess left.

His bed-hair was a nice gruff and I felt the urge to run my hands through it fixing it for him but that would've been ridiculous "They left early just a few minutes ago for your house they did say you two should stay though." I answered instead. Cody’s phone buzzed in her hand and excused herself from the kitchen leaving the air tense, empty with just me and Conrad. He was first to speak “this must be awful for you, we’ll find a hotel somewhere in the city today.”

“Is this awful for you?” I countered back with another question

“Well I know your mom is remodeling the house and if we stay most probably tonight she might have you share your room with me. It doesn’t seem like you like me at school all that much to begin with and your couch is a lyralu jipato my mom doesn’t really like us sitting in it.” He chuckled “I can’t imagine your mom being ok with me or anyone sleeping on it.” He said. And I felt the need to re assure him that I didn’t mind sharing a bedroom, in fact in most of the fantasies he’s seeped through it’s my bedroom where everything goes down.

I also wanted to tell him that the couch he was talking about was the same couch we came home one night from a school trip and found dad sleeping on after mom barred him from their bedroom. I then decided to joke around and mention that with Fenty Furniture possibly coming out mom wouldn’t fret much as she’ll have a chance to move it to the antique room.

But before I could the French doors from outside rang, someone was opening them. We both left the kitchen and went over to the lounge room to see and in came running a pair of twins under five like the wind. Tess and her friend were behind the catastrophe of energized bunnies and that’s when I knew. My day was gone.

They say nothing is impossible.

And I suppose i can talk about love in the nexus of an all boys boarding school. In the eyes of one highly esteemed and privileged dorm mate who happened to be a senior and the head boy. One i never saw myself getting a chance of even befriending let alone in my bed.

A coming of age drama dealing with teenage angst, tragedy, heartbreak, love, money and above all friendship.
