What You've Given Me

11: You Have to Be Joking!

11: You Have to Be Joking!

Nov 08, 2018

"You have to be joking! Out!" I growled, grunting as I tried to drag him off. "Get out of my room, you bastard!"

He blinked, an odd light in his dark green eyes. "Selena, do not touch me," he told me, his voice still emotionless. He easily unhooked my fingers from around his arm. But as soon as he did, I latched onto him again. "Selena, I am serious," he repeated. "Do not touch me."

I tossed my head up and to the side slightly, since my bangs had half fallen into my eyes. Staring up at him, I saw a darkness of something I'd never seen before in his gaze...

He was serious! He would honestly hurt me if I kept this up!

Swallowing, I quickly dropped my hold on his arm. "S-sorry," I mumbled, suddenly feeling almost scared.

He let out a long breath, closing his eyes, before inhaling deeply once again. "I forgive you. Please, keep in mind that I do not like the touch of other people. Again, this is another reason why I will not try to kiss, hold, or touch you. It is the only reason, I believe, that your mother felt it would be okay to have this arrangement. I know it is odd, as well as considered 'improper' for two unmarried individuals to share a room and bed if they are not lovers. But it is the current situation. Looking in on Maria's room, her bed is not big enough for both of you to sleep in, nor is her room big enough to fit a bigger bed or more beds in."

"Why don't you just move into Maria's room?" I asked, wrapping my arms around myself in a defensive gesture.

He rubbed at the arm I'd been touching absently, his eyes still closed. "To be honest, her room is too small for me. That room of the house has an inclined roof and wall and I would be cramped in it. As well, her bed is too short for me and my feet would hang over the edge, normally. But with the set up of her room, the foot of her bed is literally against her closet door, which means I would not have any room to have my feet hanging over." His eyes slowly opened again as he stared at me.

I rubbed at my arms, hating to admit that what he was saying was true. Out of the three of us, Maria was the smallest. She was only four feet and ten inches tall and unless she hit a growth spurt sometime soon, she'd probably be that short for the rest of her life. Since she was so tiny, many people thought she was twelve or thirteen, instead of her actual age of sixteen. It didn't help she was pretty flat-chested too.

"If I moved into Mackenzie's room, that would be very bad. I am seventeen and she is thirty-five." I grimaced at his words, disgusted. Ew, that is a nasty thought! "Mackenzie does not have the money to buy a new bed, so there are only three beds to work with. While I could sleep on the couch for a time, it is not very comfortable and my weight might eventually cause it irreparable harm. 'Sleepers' built into couches are not made to last or be as strong as actual beds."

"Maria and I could share this bed or something. Or Maria and Mom could," I offered in reasonable thought.

He blinked before shrugging. "You could, yes. But that would require more moving around of the beds than was already done today. It will have to wait until after tonight."

I swallowed, eyeing the empty space of the bed next to him. "I think I'd rather just sleep on the couch," I grumbled.

He eyed me for a very long moment. I started to turn away, but his voice made me stop in my tracks. "Selena...What if I told you that sleeping in this bed with me would let you gain more money than you'd know what to do with? Enough money to be able to go to any college you'd like, buy any house you'd want, live in any country you'd want."

I turned slowly to face him fully again, my eyes wide, eyebrows raised. My jaw felt like it was nearly going to hit the floor. Shaking my head a little, I tried to pull up a calm, disbelieving facade. "You have to be joking!" I laughed mockingly. "Sleeping in a bed with you will magically give me a lot of money?"

He nodded his head slowly. "In a way. If you agree to share a room with me and sleep in the same bed with me for the time I will be living here...Your odds of gaining all this money will increase from 5% to 70%," he explained.

I frowned, staring at him hard. "Are you serious? You are, aren't you? How does that work?" I demanded.

His dark green eyes were unreadable. "It's a sick joke Mathew came up with."

"A joke?" I repeated, completely confused.

"Yes. Would you like to hear the joke?" he asked in a cold voice.

Still frowning (just what the hell is Seok talking about?), I nodded. "Yeah, I guess. Sure," I muttered, as I reached up to brush back more of my bangs.

He rose to his feet, pushing back the white comforter on the bed. Standing, he towered over me once again and I took an unconscious few steps back in order to not to have to strain my neck as bad. On his feet, he was in nothing but the same sweatpants he'd had on last night, his upper body bare. Seeing him like this, it made me feel both a little nervous and a little excited.

I quickly scolded myself. Get a freaking grip, girl!

Gingerly, he lowered himself down to one knee before me. My eyes went wide, mouth open in a small breath of shock.

No...No. Wait a second here! This is totally not what it looks like, right? Right?!

"Selena Arnold, will you agree to become my legally wedded wife?" he asked calmly.

[ON HIATUS]

Seok isn't your average 17-year-old teenage boy. He's cold. He's apathetic. He's distant. He's like a machine, in every way that's less human and more computer.

Seok isn't normal because he DOESN'T feel any emotions. He's been dead inside since he can remember.

In all honesty, Seok's life is BORING.

With the sudden passing of Seok Kim's father, he is sent off to live with his godmother's family. With the arrival of Seok, the Arnolds' lives are rocked to their core.

In comes Selena Arnold. The oldest daughter of Mackenzie Arnold, she's hot-tempered, confident, bossy, and protective of those she cares for. She can't stand Seok's guts, seeing him as a mooching rich-boy.

As per Seok's deceased father's last clause of his will, it's in Selena's best interest to try and get along with Seok.

Now Seok's got half a year to figure out if he's willing to do something he's never thought of before. If he doesn't give in to his father's will, he'll keep his independence. But if he gives in, he might just gain something he's never known before.
