Oliver and Felix were both going into 4th grade. They were both nervous but Felix was even more nervous than Oliver was because had moved over the summer and was going to a new school without knowing anyone. He was so scared to embarrass himself or even worse made fun of because he was the new kid. Oliver was pretty fine with going into 4th grade because he was pretty popular. Almost every 4th grader knew who he was, but he didn't want to be in the same class as Kara. She was the most bratty and annoying girl in the whole school. Her family was rich and she was spoiled rotten. She was the most popular girl in school, and no one messed with her.
On the first day of school, Oliver and Felix were both dropped off at the front gate. They went to go see what class they had then went to eat breakfast. Oliver and Felix were in the same class, Mrs. Ito's class. She was Japanese and had traveled abroad for college then stayed her because of her husband. While Felix was trying to find the classroom, Oliver was catching up with some of his friends. Everything was perfectly fine until Kara walked over to Oliver's table. One thing I forgot to mention was that Kara had a huge crush on Oliver. Although they were only in 4th grade, Kara thought that because Oliver was rebellious he was the cutest, most popular boy and school. They were made for each other because they were the most popular girl and boy and should just date each other.
Oliver did not want to deal with her right now so he went to Mrs. Ito's room. Felix was the only kid there, he was sitting in his chair looking around his new classroom. Oliver was Felix's table partner. Of course, Oliver was going to introduce his self because that is what Mrs. Ito was gonna have them do anyways so might as well get it done sooner rather than later. So Oliver walked up the Felix and introduced his self. They started talking about Fortnight and PubG. By the time class started they had realized that they had a lot in common.
At lunch, Oliver invited Felix to come and eat with them. Everyone wanted to talk to Felix because he was the new kid. It dawned on him that he had made so many friends on the first day and they haven't even had recess yet. Oliver, Felix, and their friends were talking next to the basketball hoop as Kara and her "cackle" walked over. She wanted to know what all of the talks about this new kid was for. When everyone saw Kara and her group walk up they rolled their eyes because they know she is coming over to start something. She said hi to Oliver then walked over to Felix. She asked him why he was here and why he was hanging out with the cool kids. Oliver and his friends told her it was none of her business and that she needed to go. Oliver was defending him and then Kara asked, "Why are you even defending him, he isn't your friend." Felix was waiting for his answer. Oliver didn't know what he should say. He stood there thinking while everyone was staring at him waiting for an answer. Oliver started, "Umm, he is....." He looked over at Felix and saw the look in his eyes. They were filled with hope and fear. Felix wanted to hear Oliver say that they were friends so bad. Oliver then knew what to say. "Felix is my friend and I will always stand up for him, especially if it is you who is messing with him," Oliver stated. Kara got mad and walked off with her group of "friends".
Felix was so happy that Oliver stood up for him and considered him his friend. "Oliver you are the best thanks for sticking up for me," Felix said with joy. "No problem, Flix" Oliver answered. Right after Oliver called him Flix he started to turn bright red because no had ever been able to think of a good nickname for Felix. Felix had a nickname for Oliver too. " Hey Oli, want to go and shoot some hoops." Felix said excitedly " Yeah let's go I bet you can't get five in a row" Oliver tested. They both went over to the basketball courts and started playing. At the same time, Kara was glaring at Felix because he was putting distance in between her and Oliver. What made her even madder was that they already had nicknames for each other and they just met. After that, they were best friends all through the rest of elementary and middle school.
