Jack wakes up in his room, his arms and legs all stitched up, as well as his stomach, which was opened for the third time today. Or yesterday, or maybe last week. But Jack doesn't really care, time has no meaning, he just doesn't want to feel pain anymore.
Getting out was impossible. That's what he's been told, that's what he has proven to himself and never tried again, but he subconsciously still waits for the mistake in the system, the way out.
The room he spends most of his time in is a medium sized bedroom with one very old bed, a wooden bookshelf with old books that have yellow pages, half of which not even in Russian (the boy can only speak russian) and a table with a chess board. There are no windows in the room except for a small one on the top right corner facing the bed. He could often hear screams at night.
The screams being, what he believed to be the other experiment. He has heard the cook and the nurse gossiping about how he wasn't the first one.
"What are they thinking, using a young boy! The older didn't survive, look what became of him!" the nurse would say
There's coughing coming from the next window today. Just like any other time he was left alone, he pushed the chessboard off the table and pulled the table under the window.
As he stood on it and talked about his day he knew someone was listening. He also knew this person was as desperate for a friendship as he was. His marks on the wall proofed he was now 12. It's been 5 years since he was taken away, he didn't remember if he ever had friends, or if his parents liked him. He didn't remember how the sky looked like.
"Hey, I know you're listening. Did they take your tongue? Can you talk? Answer me!" the boy says in a desperate voice
No answer
"You want me to visit you? I'll do it! I don't care if I get into trouble. I know you're hurting, number 2, I can feel it too. I'll help you I promise" the boy replies to the silence, pushing the table back and putting the chess board on it again like it was.
The wardrobe is next to the wall where the exit was. Because the door is always locked he needed to get out through the wardrobe. Earlier he kicked the wardrobe side which led to the whole in the wall which they resided to cover with the wardrobe. The wardrobe was very old, so it wasn't very hard to break it. Jack pushed a box to block the hole so they wouldn't find out, so now whenever he wanted to get out he would be able to.
The halls were always empty, there were webs and the sealing was leaking. The floor was cold, and the doors were all heavy metal with no way of looking inside.
Jack had to walk a lot to get to the turn that led to the left. 76 rooms, to be exact, and then counting the rooms as he walks to the opposite side he finally reaches room #1004. That was the room to the opposite side of him.
The door was heavy metal, there were no windows or holes.
Jack knocks on the door, expecting an answer.
None comes.
So then Jack pushed the door as hard as he can. Surprisingly it was open.
As he pushed the door further, fully opening the door to reveal the full view of the room.
It was dark, but not dark enough, because there was clear red liquid on the floor, leading to a body. A very skinny body of an animal. It didn't look human, but Jack new he was.
As tears start streaming down his eyes he whispers in a trembling voice
"Number 2?"
