He ran. He did not care if he was going to get caught or that he would not make it alive, he just wanted to get out of those cursed tunnels and escape those cursed scientists.
He passes his room, he passes the great hall where great, but terrible things happen. He passes the guard who is sleeping and the young scientist who soon catches up to him and grabs him by the hand.
"What do you think you're doing?" Jake asks
"Please" Jack starts, panting, tears in his eyes "Please let me leave, I hate it here! Please, please just BE HUMAN FOR ONCE!"
Jake freezes. He looks like he remembered something from a while ago, or even longer than that. He looks like he has come to a certain realization, that would change his life.
So he let's go of Jack and then he watches him run out of the underground tunnel into the sun.
Why did he do that? He knows he'll be killed! Well, maybe he just wanted to be a good brother for once.
Running out into the light Jack was blinded. It is an indescribable feeling, when you see the sun after 5 years. He has spent half his life locked up in a prison that takes him apart and then puts hkm back together him twice a week strictly sticking to schedule.
When he could finally see the surrounding area though Jack was a little disappointed. Even though he has little memory of his life before, he remembers that there used to be trees everywhere. He remembers that the air used to be clean and it would smell like flowers. The sun used to be shining, but its almost as dark outside as it is in the tunnels.
The ground is brown, dusty, and when you look out to the horizon you can only see bare land. There are big and scary machines that make unpleasant noises and pollute the air. Jack didn't like the outside as much as he used to, but he decided that it may be different in another place, so he set out to look for a better place.
He finally escaped the scientists, those scary guards and those dirty tunnels, yet he didn't feel happy about it at all. In fact he felt even worse. He thought, that it would be better that he stayed inside the tunnels and thought that the outside was beautiful, that the people were all happy, then escape and see a bare and ugly land where everyone is working and aren't happy at all.
His feet are dirty, he broke is shoes so he has to walk barefoot. The ground is rough and it is hard to breathe. The wind blows hard, but the air never satisfies Jack, he keeps opening his mouth to catch some air, but all he catches is dirt and dust. The sky is orange, so orange he would have though it was mars (he read a book while he was in the experiment). 'This place doesn't look like earth', Jack thought, as he struggles to keep going.
His body is broken, it can't take any physical activity after an operation for around two weeks, so it isn't any surprise when Jack falls to the ground.
He looks at the sky for one last time before he blacks out into the darkness. He still hears sounds, sounds of people, steps, voices. They didn't sound kind to Jack, but he had no energy to protest when they picked him up and take him away. All he could do is hope they take him away to a place nicer than the tunnels.
To escape the hell Jack was trapped in it only took a small push. Fear is the greatest motivator, you know.
