This apartment— swept by gray and glum. The room beared great similarity to that of a foggy cemetery, cold, lonely; not a warm body in sight. Shawn sighed as he stepped into the lonely room; his foster parents were gone for a 1 month long business trip and even though he had only one more week to go with this loneliness, he knew they would be gone again in no time. He's used to it though... being alone.
Shawn kicked off his shoes to the side of the room, without a care in the world where they would end up. Shawn didn't always have such a pessimistic attitude toward life. It all began when his big brother died of cancer; his whole world feel apart, that added to the fact that he's been through a dozen foster homes, each returning him for his bad attitude and behavior. It's been a tough life. This was actually the longest he's been with a foster family. He was greatful to Mr and Mrs Darling; for taking him in, giving him a nice home, giving the best education he could never dream to afford. He was indebted to them and he was thankful, even if he didn't know how to express it.
Shawn slowly made his way over to the couch, while at the same time taking off his school blazer. He carelessly threw it on the couch, where he shortly after threw himself. Exhausted by the days turn of events, he just wanted to recollect himself. He stretched to the far end of the couch, trying to grab ahold of the distant remote. Success he grasped the remote, eager to see what was good on television. He skipped, channel after channel, but there was literally nothing appealing to his taste on television.
"Damn it Rora!" Shawn said as his irritation turned towards his city. Rora is a very special city, it was established under the US government's Eco development project, due to the need for more sustainable means of living to meet the rising demand for living facilities, due to the increased birth rate over the years. Rora is the world's first eco friendly floating city. It had it all, high tech, huge corporations, beautiful vegetation; the perfect blend between technology and nature.
Shawn was getting quite frustrated with not being able to find a decent channel, it was like he was going in an infinite loop. Documentary, documentary, documentary... Oh look News, documentary, thought Shawn as he logged the TV's contents.
"Seriously, nothing but News and documentary!" Exclaimed Shawn as he threw the remote in the couch, however it hit his school jacket which hung off the couch's back rest. A neatly folded document suddenly slid from the pocket of the jacket, it was a note to the principal; informing him of the fact that Shawn cheated on his pop quiz. Shawn was rewarded a failure, one he couldn't afford as he was already edging on the seventy percent percent pass mark as it is. If he failed this quiz he was not gonna get a passing grade.
The whole situation was frustrating, he was wasting the great opportunity the Darlings where giving him and that made him guilty. Add that to pain he felt everytime he remembered his brother and the loneliness he felt; these were dark times for Shawn.
This is my destiny, a life of disappointment, pain and loneliness. I guess that's how it goes for me, ever since I was a kid I was cursed to lose, life took the people I loved away from me... leaving me all alone— scarred; in this world filled with nothing but misopportunities and disappointment. But what can I do? It's my reality.
Shawn sat while leaning forward in the couch, meshing his finger together; thinking about the turn his life took. He just sat there and blankly stared at the floor, reflecting on his thoughts; trying to cope with this tsunami of emotions.
Shawn was lost in his own mind, what will I do? How will I explain this to mom and dad; some of the major thoughts that clouded his mind. But suddenly, Shawn heard something, a faint sound. He was so lost in the depth of his thoughts that he didn't realize. However, after the third ring, he realized it was his Vector tablet. He slowly rose from the couch, and made his way to his back pack in a sluggish manner, curious to see what was going on, but not too curious to be quick about it. When he finally got to it, he opened his backpack and retrieved his seven inch Vector multipurpose tablet. On the notification bar there was a request for a video chat. Shawn didn't even look who the request was from, he rejected it and turned to walk away. But then another request came once again, he rejected, but another followed shortly.
"Who the heck is this?" He said annoyed at the constant ringing. He was going to reject again, but he figured that the person would just send another request, so he decided to answer.
"What do yo—" uttered Shawn out of bitter frustration, before he was interrupted.
"Heeeey, Shawn what's up?" Said the voice of a girl beaming with enthusiasm, her name was Abby Gale.
