"W—well you know nothing much, I'm just here chilling at home," said Shawn, with a slight smile.
"At home... Uh uh no way, I'm coming over there to get you, you're not gonna be at home on the biggest night of gaming in Rora," she said.
Biggest night if gaming? He thought about it for a second and finally realized.
"The launch of the new version of Zoar, I totally forgot," whispered Shawn in surprise, as he place his hand over his mouth.
"Well it's not too late... You can still make it" Abby said. "Get your coach-potato ass over here, let's have some fun!" She sang in an attempt to get me out of the house.
" I can't make I right now, I'm not feeling so good." He slowly divert his eyes away from the camera; reminiscent of a sad puppy.
"Come on!" She beckoned.
"I'm just not feeling it right now,"
"Okay... If you won't come to the fun, the fun will come to you," she said in a playful tone, she danced to the music being played in the background; she couldn't dance but she didn't really care.
She never quits, does she? Shawn thought as a smile bloomed on his face. She Alway could brighten even the darkest of days for Shawn. She was precious to Shawn, one of the few people he considers friends.
She danced her way around, turning the camera toward the festivities of the launch. Game lovers celebrated as the moment of the revival of an old favorite was upon them.
The CEO— Marsh Bradley—suddenly took the stand, "Hello gamers!" The crowd roared in excitement. "This moment, will be an historic one in the sights of all gamers, today is the dawn of a new era for Zoar! Gamers from all over the world will be able to play for fame, power and glory!" The crowd, included Abby shouted, "Zoar!"
The roars of the crowd could be heard from where Shawn was. Seeing the footage of people celebrating, parents, kids, sisters... brothers having fun made Shawn feel empty.
I wish I would trade it , he thought.
"Now join me in this count down of the new era for Zoar!" Exclaimed the Mr Marsh.
"Three," the crowd roared.
This reality of mine, filled with pain and emptiness.
"Two!"
I'd trade it... For anything.
"One! Yeah!
The tablet screen erupted with splashes of colour, blue and red confetti dispersed in the air and slowly fell as snow flakes of colour. It was a beautiful sight to see.
"Now Zoar is available on all Vector devices, go be a hero, for humanity!" Shouted Mr Marsh.
Abby returned the camera to her face, excited that the launch was successful. "Zoar available for play right now, I wanna be the first person you play against, Okay?"
"Yeah, but I won't go easy on you" I said in an attempt to be playful.
"Hey Abby, who are you talking to?" said a voice in the background of the video. The person made his way into view; it was her boyfriend— Wayne Notice.
He didn't like me much for some reason, although Abby says we have alot in common. Wayne upon noticing I was the one he was talking to, responded with despising eyes.
"Why are you talking to this loser?" Asked Wayne.
"Don't call him a loser!" Said Abby in my defense.
"Hang up." Wayne glared at Abby intensely.
"No!" She rebeled. Wayne then grabbed the camera and the video feed was disconnected.
This reality isn't for me... I don't belong. He was about to reverse to my sad state, however it was hard to wallow in my despair after seeing Abby's smile. So he decided to launch Zoar to ease his mind. Alot has changed since he last played eleven years ago. It was all pixely and what not. But, now it's so refined, with amazing graphics. Shawn quickly signed up and entered the game.
I won't start the raid mode without Abby, I'll just play an online duel then. From what I heard there is a one on one feature— where you can fight other online players. He scoured the game in an attempt find the feature. My story, no. Raid, no. Versus. That's what I'm looking for. He clicked on the virtual button and after a couple seconds of loading he was paired with a user called 'VJ_Bae'.
Shortly he received a message.
VJ_Bae: "prepare to die noob!"
I replied: "You wish... Try to keep up ;)."
The battle began and I beat the other player at every single turn. It was more of a massacre than a game.
VJ_Bae: "cheater!!!" The player texted.
Initially I thought the player was insane, but it was true, my game cheat engine was running all along but I didn't mean to use it.
VJ_Bae: "damn, cheaters the world is full of them."
The player then without warning logged off. Shawn slowly walked over to the window, looking blankly beyond it as he thought to himself, Cheater huh? He closed his eyes, took a deep breath and decided to uninstall the the cheat. But as he was about to hit the confirmation button a bright light began to stimulate my peripheral vision. He looked over towards the source and it was coming from the Vector Building. A huge explosion followed the light, which shook even his building. He fell to the ground with his tablet— inches from his hand. As he tried to get up he heard screaming and utter chaos, it was coming from the tablet. I saw visuals of Abby running confused, she tried to escape but there was yet another explosion; the video ended.
"Abby!" Shawn shouted. He slowly tried to get to his feet, gripping the window frame for support. When he got up he saw something out of this world— five star like objects luminated the sky. They stood dormant momentarily but suddenly they erupted. The light spread all over the city, vaporizing all in its path. Shawn tried to run with his tablet, but he too was a victim to the catastropy. When he got caught in the bright explosion, his body seemed like it was being picked apart, block by block. They're was no helping his situation at this point. He faded with the light.
