The next day I came back to stay at my father's house for winter break. The drive was long but I arrived on time. My father was waiting outside by the drive way.
“Hello son, it's been a long time. How was the drive?”
“Hi dad, it was okay. Not much traffic”
“I see and what happened to the car?”
“I-I backed up the car a bit too fast and hit a bush.” Fuck, I couldn't think of a better excuse, really a bush for a dent that big?! He’ll never believe me…”
“Are you sure? You're not fooling anyone” he looked at me suspiciously.
“I'm not lying” I began to tremble but then his phone started ringing.
“Alright, I'll let it slide today but only because I need to take this call” he walked away to take the call. That was close. Then he came back.
“Sorry about that I need to head to work soon but before I do tell me how your studies are going?”
“Good, they're are going great!” I tried to hide the fact that I was arriving late and skipping a few classes because of Nate. I didn't want to tell him because my father helps Nate pay for his tuition. We talked for a bit longer but then he got another call saying he had to go back to work. He was busy as usual.
“If you need anything give me a call” He said as he left and handed me the keys.
“Alright bye” I went inside the house and headed to my room. I unpacked my stuff in my old bedroom. Everything was untouched. My magazines, video games and old trading cards were where I last left them, nothing was out of place as if I never left. I decided to look around the house for a bit.
