I didn't think anything special would happen on this day. I thought it would be a normal day where I would just come home from school and play on my computer, or watch videos on my phone, the wonderful realization of summer vacation sinking into my skin. But, no. It wasn't one of those days. As soon as stem got home, flower told him everything I asked about. With a concerned look on his face, he and flower sat me down to tell me everything I needed to know about my past.
"This is big news, sprout. So, we will break it to you carefully, piece by piece," she explained. I swallowed hard with a lump in my throat. I didn't expect what I was about to hear.
"Yeebelr... you are the son of Tano and Lyma." Flower said sadly. Those words stuck into my head. They echoed with no sign of slowing down. My heart dropped to my stomach. I put my head in my hands. Was I really the son of two of the evilest Internal Spirits? Did my name really mean 'dismantled disgrace'?
"My name means... dismantled disgrace..?" I asked wearily. They started waving their hands and shaking their heads.
"No, no! Sprout!" They said. Flower crouched down to my level and put her hands on my shoulders.
"We found you. Stem and I were in our gardens, tending to many different kinds of mystical plants. Then, we heard screaming and crying. We ran over behind our garden to a small shore. Then, we saw you. A baby with nothing. When you opened your eyes to stare at us, we saw the knowing sight of color and art. We knew of the news about the baby tossed into the sea by Tano and Lyma. We knew of your name that meant 'dismantled disgrace' in their language. Your real name was Gongomasi, which means that. We knew you were their baby because you had that Internal Spirit aura. We took you in as our own and decided to move to Earth where you could be with other humans. We renamed you Yeebelr, which means 'colors of the earth'." Flower explained. As I took this all in, I had one question;
"What kind of magical being are you guys?" I asked.
"We are floral nymphs. That is why you call us flower and stem," Stem explained. I took this all in with a deep breath. I imagined myself being born, my mother and father tossing me into the sea. I imagined flower and stem finding me as a baby and moving me to Earth. I realized that I completely ignored the fact about Orleans being Sienna. I smiled at my parents and hugged them, thanking them for all they've done. I ran upstairs to my room and called Orleans.
"Yes?" She croaked in a hoarse voice. I assumed it was all of that screaming.
"I know," I said dramatically.
"Uh, know what?" Orleans said, breaking the dramatic effect.
"I know that you're Sienna and that I'm Gongomasi, son of Lyma and Tano," I replied.
"Oh... oh, Yeebelr..." She said sympathetically.
"Wait a minute, how come when I asked you if you were Sienna today you were screaming?" I asked.
"It's a tick that all Internal Spirits have. If they are in disguise, and a mortal asks them if they really are and Internal Spirit, they scream. A lot." She explained.
"But... why???" I replied.
"Heck if I know." She snorted.
I went to bed that night thinking about what I've been told. What is even my power as an Internal Spirit? I have yet to find out. When I woke up the next morning, I biked over to Orlean's house. I sat down in her room with a bottle of water.
"Do you know what I'm the Internal Spirit of?" I asked Orleans. She shook her head.
"No idea."
"I can't think of anything..." I said.
"Maybe you're the Spirit of Communication.... wait... no, that already exists. I met him once. Opin." Orleans said.
"I'm shy... maybe the Spirit of slyness and sneakiness?" I wondered.
"No, that doesn't make sense,"
"There might be another way I can find out!" I exclaimed.
"How...?" Orleans asked.
"We can ask, Lorelei, Spirit of Wisdom!" Orlean's eyes widened.
"Are you crazy????" She asked.
"No," I replied. Orleans thought for a moment. I knew my idea was crazy, but I just needed to know so my purpose could be confirmed. Suddenly, Orleans smiled. She held out her hand to shake mine.
"A journey," She finally said.
