Going into the forest at night would be fun, according to her friend. She didn't think it was a good idea, but she was outvoted and she was gonna be damned if she wasn't going. She would never hear the end of it.
Now, they were completely and properly lost in the dark forest, miles from town. She was extremely irritated and scared. Her friend searched the area with the flashlight, but they were unable to figure out where they had come from.
She sat down on a log as her friend wandered the area. The flashlight flickered through the trees as she tried her phone again. No signal. Again. There was no way to navigate their way out or call for help. Resisting the urge to chuck her phone across the clearing.
As she looked toward the sky, she saw the full moon being threatened by some clouds. Soon, they weren't going to be able to walk as easily as before. She sighed loudly and stood from the log, brushing off her pants.
Following her friend, she walked around trees and roots. She needed to suggest that they should stay put for the night and wait for morning. However, as she approached her friend, she noticed that they were standing next to another clearing.
As the clouds covered the moon, the flashlight landed on a naked man in the middle of the clearing. Her friend looked terrified of the man, but she couldn't understand why. He looked to passed out on the ground, meaning that he was completely harmless.
She went to go check on the man, but her friend grabbed her arm. She stopped and looked at her friend, who just shook her head. Yanking her arm free, she turned back to see the man start to stand up. His face had dark streaks, which could have been dirt or blood.
"Hello?" she called out gingerly, trying to come across friendly. The man's head jerked up. He looked terrified.
"Get away from here!" he shrieked, startling her and her friend.
"We can help," she insisted.
"I said get away! You can't be here!"
"Sir, please," she began. The clouds shifted in the night sky as he screamed. "Do you at least now how to get back to town? We're lost."
"Run!" he painfully shouted, panic in his voice. The moonlight shined down on him as he made an ungodly sound. Her blood ran cold as his back arched unnaturally.
"Let's go," she whispered to her friend as she started to back up. She didn't need anymore convincing as the man flailed on the grass. Her friend didn't move. "Come on!"
Her friend was in a state of absolute shock, staring as fur sprouted from the man's skin. She grabbed their shoulder before taking off. She didn't look back to see if they were following her. She leaped over roots and ducked under branches, not keeping track where she was going or how to get back.
Then as she started to slow and calm down, she could hear branches crunch and snap behind her. She looked behind her and saw a deformed wolf chasing her. A short scream left her lips as she turned tail and booked it. She knew that she wasn't a match for the creature pursuing her, but that didn't stop her.
She made a sharp turn around a tree, which gave her an extra few feet. However, he easily caught up and snapped at her feet. Unfortunately she lost her footing and tumbled. The creature howled and went to bite her neck.
Just as her skin broke, the clouds covered the moon again, reversing the transformation. She cried out in pain as the blood rushed from her neck and her body ached. The creature returned to being a man, who realized what he had done.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry," the man repeated with a stutter. He clasped her neck, which helped a little, but the blood still flowed out. He tore off some fabric from her shirt and tied it around her neck, efficiently stopping the bleeding enough. "I'm so sorry."
The man left quickly after, leaving her dizzy on the forest floor. She breathed deeply as she cried to herself. Her body hurt, as if her bones were breaking and healing at the same time. She opened her eyes as she looked up at the sky, seeing the clouds covering the moon.
As the clouds passed and the moon shone down on her, she screamed inhumanly. Her bones shifted and changed underneath her skin as her skin burned. Hair grew on every inch of her body as her senses grew more refined. The last thing she remembered that night was wishing that clouds would cover the moon again.
