Empty Apartments and Promises
If anyone ever entered his apartment they would have told you that it was boring. Reed on the other hand loved his apartment. Everything was clinically white, he made sure of that even though he couldn't see it.
There were no decorations whatsoever, he kept a few books at his bedside just for prosperitys sake. He stuck his feet into his comfortable slippers and hung up his jacket on the mantle.
The lights were off, he didn't need them anyways so he preferred to ignore them. The flat was cold still, so he turned up the temperature and took a knitted sweater out of his wardrobe.
His evenings mostly consisted of listening to music, then he cooked and took a hot shower. There was a strict methods to everything he did, no matter where he went or what happened. He was determined to follow his routine as closely as possible.
But tonight he felt discontent with his routine, not even the music he turned on on the radio managed to cheer him up. Usually the bear heavy techno he listened to made him happy and giddy but today it only causesd him to get a headache.
He decided to move his shower up I priority to get rid of the horrible cold he was feeling in his bones. The water was hotter then what he would usually go for but he still felt cold and shivered as he stepped out of his glass shower.
His mirror got as much use as his TV or his lights but he paused in front of his sink regardless, a strange habit, a remnant from back when he had still been able to see.
He dried his hair off and walked back into his bedroom to get sports pants and an old shirt to sleep in. He noted that his hair was getting longer again and made a mental note to get it cut soon. He enjoyed the feeling of running his hand over his short Undercut.
The music sounded slightly better as he swayed to it, measuring the rice he'd eat for dinner in a cup. Half an hour later his flat was filled with the smell of cooked vegetables and curry paste.
He ate his dinner in the kitchen, leaning against the countertop and listening to some YouTube videos. He had forgotten completely how uncompfotable he had been.
Ardy was still pestering him about her Halloween party but he had declined to go so far. Truth be told, he actually considered going, just to get out of the house a bit more. Being a self made hermit wasn't really on his bucket list and he saw no reason to avert making new friends forever.
The situation had blowen over, hadn't it? It had been twenty years, they couldn't possibly still be looking for him. If they were even looking for him at all. His horrible paranoia was ruining his social life.
He set down the empty bowl down in the sink and texted Ardy that he'd be there. She instantly sent him the address and dress code. Great, now he had to assemble a costume until next week.
He walked to his closet and opened both of it's doors. He couldn't remember anything he could possibly use. Alright, so maybe his wardrobe was a little boring. Maybe he owned the same shirt nine times. It wasn't weird, it was highly convenient, and black pullovers went well with practically everything.
Mabey a Vampire? Or, he thought as he laughed dryly, he could be the invisible man. He wouldn't be able to see anyone elses costume anyways.
While he was still pondering over his costume he caught the little flash of blue in the corner of his eye again. He turned around to see a blue something escape his view under where his bed probably was.
He sat down on his wood floor and peered down. The blue spot was at the far end of the room. He crawled forward, careful not to hit his head on the bedframe.
When he realised what was sitting under his bed he laughed in disbelief. He stuck out his hand and the small glowing kitten stopped licking its paws and looked at him.
He knew that it was Calisters. It had to be. But why was it here, sitting in his room? Or, a better question, how could it split off from its owner, without any consequences as it seemed?
The kitten was still looking at him, its little head tilted to one side.
"Hey, don't be scared, you can come here." He really liked his voice, soft as it was, but now he wasn't sure if the kitten had heard him. But then it got up and walked up to him gracefully.
He sat back up as it crawled onto his legs and began clawing at his shirt.
"I'll call you B. Like blue, but a bit more creative." He patted its head, shifting it up to his arm as he got up. With the small creature in his hand he walked and moved more carefully.
He sat down on his bed and slipped under his covers, making sure his alarm clock was set up next to his bed before he laid down. He looked at B while it crawled over his torso, finally settling in the crock of his neck.
Reed enjoyed the slight weight of the little animal, even though,he had to remind himself of that, it wasn't really there. It was more likely his loneliness was slowly driving him insane.
He closed his tired eyes and shifted his body to a more comfortable position. B began purring next to his ear and he smiled.
At least for the time being Reed really didn't care if his new friend was real or not.
