Game Club's Mega-Quest (Old Novel)

Meeting The Game Club

Meeting The Game Club

Oct 12, 2018

It's been about a week since I bought that game. I haven't even touched it mostly because I just don't want to get too involved with Trevor and his friends. Even though my main goal was to find a new way to entertain myself, I just can't bring myself to interact with them. After thinking about what had happened last week, I feel like such an idiot. My greeting was too professional for such a casual occasion.

Now I have a new mission, find an after school club to join. I don't want to go home and just sit around, especially when my parents are off on a business trip in Japan. I need something to do. Granted, it is late in the year but late sign up is always allowed.

I walk to the east side of the building where activities are held. The corkboard on the wall caught my attention as a ranking list was displaying all the clubs and their amount of members. The first three on the top of the list were no surprise.

#1. PC Games Club, 192 Members

#2. Drama Club, 156 Members

#3. Anime Club, 138 Members

At the bottom was the least populated and lowest ranked club, the Game Club with only three members. So now I know what to avoid.

I walked down the hallway peering into the other clubs through the glass windows next to the doors. People being loud and causing trouble, what I don't want. PC Games Club is just a bunch of people playing games on the desktops in the computer lab. So that's why the internet is so bad right now.

As I continued walking down the hall avoiding all of the strangest clubs, out of the corner of my eye I spotted someone. As I turned to look at them I realized it was that asian girl I had met at the game store with Trevor. I'd remember her name if I wasn't so exhausted that day. I began to approach her but it seems she didn't notice me. Because she started walking down the adjacent hallway as if she didn't see me. I turned the corner and continued to follow her, still has no idea I'm behind her.

Eventually, she leads me (unintentionally) to a clubroom so far away from the others and at the end of the hall by the custodian's office. As she turned to open the door she finally spotted me. She turned to look at me and she let out a small scream but covered her mouth immediately.

She uncovered her mouth. "Sorry about that, you surprised me! Erm- Allan right?"

"Oops. Didn't mean to. Yes, my name is Allan. How do you do?" I asked.

"Oh, well I'm, uh, good I guess? Anyway, what brings you to the Game Club?" She asked.

That's what this is?! The lowly unimpressive club with only three members?! I thought to myself. "I only followed you, I didn't know where you were going exactly." I said trying not to sound surprised.

She immediately stepped back a bit and put her arms in an 'x' around her chest as if she's protecting herself. "W-why did you follow me?" She asked in a disturbed tone.

"Well, I saw you in the corner of my eye, so I just decided to see where-"

"Is it because I'm small?! Is it because you want to bully me!? Why is that!?" She asks in a louder tone.

"Hey now, what're you getting at? I didn't intend to do any of that, I was just curious where you were going. We are acquaintances after all." I'm already unimpressed with her.

"Oh, sorry about that." She looked a bit down as she said that. "I just uh, want to be extra safe you know?"

"Eh? yeah sure, whatever. Anyway I guess I'll be seeing you around." I turned around and began to walk away.

"Wait!" She called out to me.

I turned around once again. "What do you need?" I asked kind of annoyed.

"Um, would you consider joining the Game Club?" She asked.

"Wha?" I was surprised. "Why would I join such a low end club? Especially after how a member of said club treated me?"

"Well, I mean you don't have to. But, without enough members, the club will go under and be disbanded. I just thought..." She started talking in a shaky tone.

Is this girl about to cry?

"H-hey now! I- I'll consider it." I said

"Great! Come on in!" Her attitude took a 180.

Was she baiting me?

She opened the door for me. As soon as the door opened not even half way...

"Oh! It's you! I see you've come to join the club!" A girl's voice started talking to me.

I peered in the room more and it was the other girl I had met at the game store. Again, I can't remember her name. I looked around more and I saw Trevor sitting on a rickety old couch playing something on his weird gadget.

He turned around and noticed me. "Oh Allan, you actually decided to join?"

The Asian girl decided to speak. "Yeah! He just showed up and-"

"Now, now, don't get your hopes up. I said I'd consider it now didn't I? Are you changing the story?" I asked.

"Wha? No, you didn't even let me finish-"

"Anyway, as long as he considers it, it's all fine! Now, sit down my friend!" The girl told me.

"You know what?" I said.

"What?" They all asked at the same time.

"I think I won't join." I said.

"Huh?! Why?!" They all asked. At the exact same time again.

"This room, is filthy!" I said.

They all had a blank expression on their faces.

Then one of them spoke. "Get him."

All of a sudden everyone jumped from their seats and ran towards me. Even the short little Asian girl behind me managed to keep me at bay by just gripping my waist. The two grabbed my legs and carried me to that dirty old couch. I feel very uncomfortable as I sit on a bunch of hot cheeto crumbs.

"Please reconsider! We need you to join!" The Asian girl asked with desperation.

They continued to beg and ask for about five minutes until I finally decided to speak.

"Fine. I'll join." Their eyes lit up. "On one condition." Their eyes returned to a despaired state. "Everytime I enter this room, it must be clean! If there is even a speck of dust on the floor, I will leave immediately."

"But, that's impossible Allan!" Trevor told me.

"Follow my terms and conditions and you get your precious fourth member. In fact, I'll even print out a contract for all three of you to sign if you want it." I said.

"Well, that's not too much to handle! It's a deal Allan!" The girl grabs my hand with both of her hands and shakes furiously. She sure knows how to act in a time like this. "Okay everyone, sit down!"

Everyone (by everyone I mean the two only other people in the room) sat down in their folding chairs that were set up in a circle around me.

"Okay, welcome to 'Getting to Know Each Other'." The girl said.

"With Bennet Foddy." Trevor said under his breath.

"Oh great! I don't remember any of your names." I said with a sigh of relief.

Trevor and the Asian girl looked at me weird.

"Well that's fine, as club president, I will start. My name is Bridget, top of my class as well!" Bridget said. "You can rely on me to lead the club rightously!"

"Sigh. I don't need to introduce myself do I?" Trevor asked.

"Yes, do it." I said.

"W-why? Agh, whatever. My name's Trevor, whatever."

"And um, my name is Nia." The Asian girl said.

"Well I won't introduce myself because you all seem to remember my name by some miracle." I said.

Trevor started to speak. "Can you just-"

"No." I said.

Trevor sat back with his hands behind his head as if he were to relax. "Fine."

"Alright, now let's all share a little bit more of ourselves! How about, our birthdays and such! I'll go first. *Ahem* My birthday is on September 13th, so remember that next year." She said with a wink. She pointed at Nia. "Nia! Go!"

"Um, my birthday is, February 14th." She said.

"You're birthday is on Valentine's Day?" I asked.

"Y-yes, don't think about it too much." She said while darting her eyes away from me.

"My birthday is August 17th, let me guess I'm the youngest again right? Allan, when's your birthday?" Trevor asked.

"October 18th." I said.

"Oh, I see. I'm the youngest still." Trevor looked disheartened.

"Haha well let me tell you a little something I did this weekend then!" Bridget said.

"Sure, why not?" Trevor said.

"Well, I took a DNA test a few months ago and my results have finally been updated! They were updated over the weekend but I wanted to show you all my test results here!" She said.

"Well how're you gonna do that?" Trevor asked.

Bridget pulled a laptop out of her backpack that was sitting on the leg of her chair.

She held it up in the air like it was baby Simba from The Lion King. "With this!"

"Oh. Why am I not surprised you snuck that into the school." Trevor asked sarcastically.

Bridget laughed. "Oh Trevor, you know me too well! Now then, let's check those results!" She opened the laptop and a white light shined on her face. "Alright, it just booted up so it should take a minute to pull up the site."

We waited for more than a minute.

"Gah! Why is it taking so long!? I don't understand!" She put her hands on her head looking like a maniac.

"Um, I think it's because the Computer Games Club is having an LAN party today in the computer lab." Nia said.

"Ah! You're right! What am I gonna do!?" Bridget looks even more like a maniac now.

Then, I had an idea. "Here I'll just turn on my hotspot or something." I pulled out my phone and started to activate my WiFi hotspot.

"Wh-whoa thanks! You're a life saver! Already a part of the family. *Sniff*" Bridget said.

"W-well now I'm not trying to be nice. I just want to get that crazed look off your face." I said.

"Hmm? Oh, is that it?" She grinned. "Well, whatever works."

The hotspot was fully working now. Bridget connected to it and loaded the website.

"Alright! My ancestory results are..." Everyone waited in anticipation, except for me of course. "White."

"What?" Trevor asked.

"I'm 100% European." Bridget replied.

"Well, is that a problem?" Nia asked.

"Sigh. Well I suppose it's not. I just hoped I'd be more, how you say, exotic and unique." Bridget said.

"Well what are you?" Trevor asked.

"Let's see, 82.4% British & Irish, 9.8% French & German, and 7.8% Scandinavian. White." Bridget said with a disappointed tone.

"Well I'm sure I'm just 100% Asian so I don't see the problem." I added.

"Well the thing about that is, Asia is far more amazing and rich with history than Europe." Bridget said.

"It's okay, Bridget. I'm sure Trevor is also 100% European, it doesn't matter." Nia said.

"Well actually my grandma is half native america-" Nia covered Trevor's mouth.

"No it's quite alright Nia. I don't mind that much. Anyway, it's been a few long hours, so why don't we all go home now!" Bridget said.

"Oh that's right, clubtime ends at 4:30. It's 4:45 right now." Trevor said.

"Let us part ways here, I hope to see you all again tomorrow, or actually..." Bridget started thinking.

"What're you thinking about?" Trevor asked in a concerned tone.

"How about we all meet up in Mega-Quest? You know, that game we all went to buy last week! I haven't played it since I bought it!" Bridget said.

"Neither have I." Nia said.

"Neither have I." I added in.

"Wait. Are you serious?" Trevor asked in surprise.

"What?" Nia asked.

"I've already played the game! I'm already level 10! That's why I couldn't find you guys when I got on! You just didn't play!" Trevor said in a annoyed tone.

"Oh my, I thought we'd agreed we wait a little while, midterms were happening after all. Did you get my text?" Bridget asked.

"Huh? No, my dad got me a new line." Trevor said.

"Well that explains it." Bridget laughed a little.

"Alright I'm leaving. I guess I'll see you guys in game. If I feel like it." I left the room and walked out of school. Immediately regretting it because it was so cold outside.
