There was something about her, something I could not explain, but something that drew me to her. Maybe it was that I saw so much of myself in her, or maybe that we just happened to be the only people in the shop besides the shop owner and that it forced my attention onto her. Or maybe some other unexplainable phenomenon that makes human nature so unique. Her voice was so soft, just barely above a whisper. She asked how I liked the coffee. I said it was fine. She said nothing more that night, but she didn’t need to. Those words were more than enough. I knew I would be seeing her again soon. I knew the shop owner would be seeing me soon. It was a strange bond that was formed between us, one that I found myself deeply appreciating. I knew nothing about her; she knew nothing about me. And at the same time, we knew so much about each other. We sat silently, finished our cups, and got up. I set some bills on the table. I paid for both of us.
