The sun has just gone down when finally I finish cleaning the bathrooms in the male dorms. I make my way across the campus towards my last assignment of the night. Another restroom. At least this time it's the one in the cafeteria. Those are not as filthy as the ones in the dormitories.
My uniform chafes my skin and I regret not wearing an undershirt today. It's as I'm tugging at the collar of my overalls that I notice her. I stop and stare at her through the cafeteria windows, hardly daring to believe that what I'm seeing is true. It's really her.
The pianist.
For a moment I think this is Brendon messing with me again, but then I realise that is unlikely. I never told him about her. He has no way of knowing about her unless I tell him.
I watch as she sits alone at an empty bench and writes something down in her notebook. A short girl with red hair walks over to her, and after exchanging a few words, the pianist hands her some money. I watch, surprised as the girl hardly remembers to thank her before she runs over to her group of friends waiting at the door. The redhead waves the money at them, and one of the guy's claps her on the back before they all leave.
I walk towards the door, planning on introducing myself and telling her how much I enjoyed hearing her sing. I'm stopped as I notice someone else enter the cafeteria and motion to her. I move to the shadows beside the building and press my back against the wall, not wanting to be caught watching her.
It's only after I've hidden myself that I realise that it makes me look more suspicious. Just as I'm about to step out of the shadows, they exit the cafeteria.
"Jin, I don't know what you expect me to tell you. As your sister I have supported your relationship as much as I can, but if she isn't happy with the way you are then she shouldn't have accepted your proposal." The girl says, looking at the tall Asian man next to her with concern.
Oh, I see. It's her brother. I sigh in relief, not even sure what I was nervous about.
**Were you jealous?**
**Hehehe, you were, right? She is quite beautiful.**
I'm momentarily startled, but decide to ignore Brendon. I focus again on eavesdropping and pick up the tail end of their conversation.
"Seo-yun, please. Just try and talk to her. I don't know what she wants from me, maybe you can find out." The man, Jin, pleads.
Just then they get into a car and I miss her response. As the car passes by I take note of the plate number.
So. Her name is Seo-yun.
I let the name roll of my tongue and decide that it's different. Just like her. I smile as I turn back around and head to the administration building.
Samson has been assigned that space for the week, and I know I'll be able to convince him to trade with me. He is the only one of my colleagues I can bear to talk to, as he reminds me of my father. He'll probably ask me to buy him food or something in exchange. I can hardly keep the smile from my face as I go.
★★★
Samson just asks for a beer which I promise to pay for him after work, and hands over the keys to me. I wait until he has disappeared from sight before I enter the building.
I can't enter the office at the back of the building that belongs to the registrar, but the secretary's desk is right in front of me. For what I need it'll be more than enough.
Logging into the computer that has a password that unsuprisingly hasn't been changed in the years I've worked here and had seen on numerous occasions, is too easy. People barely pay any attention to us janitors, you’d be surprised by the things I know.
After logging in the next part is easier.
Finding the right program, I type in “Seo-yun” and hit search.
