Wake Up

Wake Up

Oct 24, 2018

Before the alarm could even ring, Clyde was already awake despite the severe lack of sleep. He yawned and stretched his aching back. The sun was nowhere to be seen when he looked outside the window. It was raining as summer came to a fruitful end. His bed was calling for him and the warm covers made it more appealing. He sighed and toughened up. He grabbed his towel hanging at the back of his door.

With a flick of a switch, he squinted his eyes from the sudden white light that enveloped the kitchen. He silently crept as he fixed breakfast. A mug of French vanilla coffee and a cream cheese bagel was enough to fill him. He glanced towards Archer’s door and then continued to chew. He took his time bathing and dressing since it was still way too early. He decided to use a different shade of black tie, darker than the normal one he wears. No one notices it, but he does like changing things up a bit from time to time even if it's something so subtle. Although, sometimes, he does change the colour of his tie to something noticeable if he feels like really dressing up.

He grabbed his brown leather suitcase as he glanced at his watch. It was weird that Archer was not up yet since he usually eats breakfast around this hour, just before he leaves for work. He knocked on Archer’s door and silently turned the knob. He was still asleep on the desk, near a pile of paper and a clutter of pens. He sighed and decided to wake him up. He placed his hand on his shoulder and gave him a little nudge.

"Hey, idiot. You'll be late for work" He did not budge.

He continuously shook him while telling him to wake up. He gave up on the sixth try and instead grabbed Archer’s blanket and placed it over him.

"I'm not going to be late for you." He silently closed his bedroom door. It's not really his obligation to wake Archer up. He wants to but doesn't need to. He does want him to know he tried waking him up today. And so, he left a note for him on the fridge.

He leisurely walked to the train station. He admired the peace the rain had to offer. He enjoyed stepping and splashing in puddles of water ever since he bought a pair of gray rainboots last year. Childish as it may, it does bring him a bit of comfort and helps make his day a little more bearable.

The station was already hectic by the time he arrived, and the day has barely begun. Some were on the telephone, others were on their computers and some were already looking through case files. He loved it. Everyone moving in one motion. It was organized chaos. He went straight to his office and threw his briefcase on his desk. He removed his rainboots and set them aside. He wore the black leather shoes hiding underneath his desk.

At that moment, he wanted to go home.

"...and they were roommates."
Clyde and Archer both feel and acknowledge the imaginative line separating them. They were fine with living together. No unwanted drama or silly laughter, just snide remarks and petty fights. It was the perfect living situation.
However, Archer's lie and Clyde's obsession with coffee jelly causes the line to blur.
