Who's the Deadbeat?

Who's the Deadbeat?

Nov 02, 2018

John raised his hand again. " Who’s she?”

She fixed her glasses and stood upright. "Oh right!  I’m your new teacher. I am Stella Wu. I replaced Teacher Mori. I'll be teaching Health with Sex Ed and Biology." She smiled. The class already felt she'd be a pain to deal with. There was something about her personality that made them want to skip the next class. They were either thinking of faking an illness or finding a good hiding spot.

"Now that you've introduced yourself, Can you go now? I want to eat good cakes on next week's demo class, and I can't teach them that with you here." Archer spoke without trying to hide his annoyance.

"Also, I used to date Teacher Archer." She proudly announced with her chest puffed out. Archer's eyes popped and looked at her unbelievably. She giggled at the sight of everyone. She liked their stunned reactions. Some had their mouth hanging while others were frantically asking trying to comprehend what just happened.

"How unprofessional!" Archer yelled. That was private information. His class is going to be insufferable about it.

"Teacher, I don't think you have the right to speak about being unprofessional."  One of the students voiced their opinion.

"I agree, weren't you like bragging about having a date weeks ago?" Another one spoke. There are times when Archer teaches, he gets lost in talking about his personal affairs. One time, when he was teaching the class how to make cookies, he got side-tracked. He somehow told them about the time he tried getting a girl's number when he was in line to buy cookies.

"Come on, Teach. Her?" Mira disappointingly asked.

"I make mistakes, Now that you've seen the mistake I made." He pointed at Stella and then continued, "I hope you won't do the same."

"Ouch, still here." Stella smiled with her hands up.

"Thought you left." He sneered.

"Okay, I'm leaving after saying this: He's dating someone new." She revealed with a laugh.

Archer gritted his teeth " You---." Stella stuck her tongue out and walked away.

He does want everyone to know, eventually, but not now. Not when he's still planning things out. It only complicates things further. Now he has to improvise, and he is never good with that. That is actually one of the reasons he failed English class back in High school. They had this presentation where he had to make an impromptu speech in front of the class. He made a complete fool out of himself. His friends made fun of him for a week.

" What?! Teacher, you're in a relationship?!" The girls asked again in unison.

" Yes? No more love letters please. It's weird. Don't do that; Besides, he easily gets jealous." He lied through his teeth.

The only reason he'll probably get jealous is if I eat coffee jelly in front of him...

"So teacher does like both teams." Someone in the class spoke. What followed was a series of murmuring and nodding.

"How? What's happening? Is there a bet? If so, I'm confiscating all of the profits."

"You talk about celebrities like Perry Hornett and Patrick Robertson when you have no other stories to tell us." John sighed, slightly irritated that the class still hasn't started yet.

"So everyone does listen to my stories." He smiled and placed his hand over his chest. "But you nerds are not off the hook. Is there a bet?"

"We are not nerds! We failed your quiz!" A student from the back shouted.

"Yeah! We're inept! That's what we are!" Another shouted. The class murmured in agreement.

"There's no bet. It changes a lot of things for the fan club. We're gonna attract new people." Lea explained. She stood up and looked at her classmates. "Should we start charging membership fees to those outside our class?"

"Wait. Hold on-what fan club?" He confusingly asked.

She twirled for no reason and almost fell. She used John's head to balance herself. "Your fan club, duh." She replied, her arm now using John's head as a rest. He looked at her with contempt but that did not stop her.

He smugly smiled. "I know I'm handsome blah blah blah, God's gift etcetera but I do not want a fan club."

"Plenty of offence teacher, but your so-called looks is not what got you a fan club." Lea haughtily replied.

"Don't you mean no offence?"

"I second the plenty of offence. " John announced with his arm raised.

She ignored what he asked and continued to talk. "This all started when Lyka from class 2-D kept on saying that Teacher Louis is the best. Long hair and dreamy! Can you believe it? I can't even ---She already got on my nerves, but she keeps on pushing and pushing.  She kept on insulting you. Only we can insult you! Only us, your advising class! She has no right. She said that Teacher Louis is great, but I defended your honour. I told her that Teacher Louis is just an airhead who can't even teach Chemistry without causing an explosion. And that his hair is the only good thing he will ever have. One thing left to another, and here we are." She spoke with such passion. Her face turned red. She had to catch her breath after talking. Just remembering that scene, made her blood boil. She was ready to fight Lyka again.

"First of all, extra points for defending me." He pointed at her and gave her a thumbs up while she smugly nodded.

"Secondly, who else is part of this stupidity? Raise your hands." He asked with his hands raised.

The whole class raised their hands except for one student. It was Peggy. No one was really surprised. She tends to have the opposite mindset from the rest of the class.  Her classmates think it's probably because she hates whatever's mainstream. Nonetheless, it never bothered them.

"Even my brightest students are a part of this?" He disappointingly asked. At this moment, he knew how much of a failure this class is.

"I joined because Lexie from 2-D is a member" Mira answered.

"Good for you, Mira. Good for you. Plus points to you too." He winked at her. She cockily smiled at him and nodded approvingly.

" I don't really want to join, but the head cheerleader, Elise, is part of it, and as a potential boyfriend candidate, I must support her every decision, so I also joined. " John reasoned.

He disappointingly looked at him. "John, you're one of the smartest kids in class and honestly, your reason is the stupidest. At least Lea defended me. You joined for a girl?"

Lea stuck her tongue out and laughed at John " Teacher praised me. " She teased.

John pointed his hand at Mira. "Mira joined for a girl!"

"But she has clear chances." He said. "Don't you?" He asked her.

"Oh, we're dating." She smiled.

John gritted his teeth. "At least I didn't cause a rivalry with the other section!" He shouted.

Archer put his arms on his hips and stuck his chin out." She started a rivalry for me. I don't see you starting anything for me."

He turned his attention to someone else. "And what about you, Peggy? Why are you the only one who's not a member?"

She scratched her cheek. "To put it frankly, I personally find Teacher Richie more attractive." She haughtily spoke.

He glanced sideways and turned his attention back to John." I take it back, Peggy's the worst, not you."

"Peggy, you're clearly blind. Why do you want a bearded deadbeat instead of a clean-shaven deadbeat?!" Lea retaliated.

" Please don't call your teachers deadbeats."

"Teacher Richie looks like a man because of his beard!" Peggy shouted.

Lea shook her fist and squinted her eyes."If you love that loser so much, why are you still here in 2-E?! go join 2-C!"

"I would if I could!" She slammed her fist on the table.

"If the two of you don't shut up, all of you will get extra homework!" Archer threatened. The classroom went silent. He sighed and looked at his class "Any more questions?"

Mira raised her hand. "So when will we meet this boyfriend of yours Teacher?"

"Never." He blatantly answered.

"He's probably just making it up to escape his loveless life." Peggy smugly spoke. "This is why teacher Richie's the best. He's on his 3rd marriage, you know he got it. He doesn't have to create a story."

The class went silent. They all glanced at Peggy. Most are slightly concerned for her while some couldn't help but chuckle uncomfortably.

"Peggy, I'll try my best to transfer you to his class." He did not want to get into whatever Peggy is on.

She squealed with happiness and clapped her hands.

After that, more and more of them chimed in. They voiced their thoughts on Peggy's theories. A lot of them agreed that he doesn't really have a boyfriend and made up one because of unbearable loneliness.

His pride and ego got the best of him. He agreed but under one condition. "I'll bring him to the school fair but you losers better pass the next quiz, and bake a good cake for next week's demo."

The whole class agreed with a sigh of dismay.

John raised his hand up " Speaking of the fair since you weren't here to start homeroom, we never got to pick what our class will do."

" Fine, we still have time."

The class mumbled. They exchanged different ideas until Lea came up with one. She discussed it with her classmates and all of them nodded. Archer was curious, he wanted to know what idea they all agreed on. He asked them but none of them answered.

"What does your partner like to eat?" Lea asked.

"Coffee Jelly."

Edited.

I am swamped with school work. I'm down to my last layer is what I imagine Shrek would say if he was in my situation. This school is eating my soul. especially this one subject. I dread this subject with all of my heart. It gives me nothing but anxiety and increased heart rate.

How about you? How's your school or work?

Thanks for reading, Famsquad.

"...and they were roommates."
Clyde and Archer both feel and acknowledge the imaginative line separating them. They were fine with living together. No unwanted drama or silly laughter, just snide remarks and petty fights. It was the perfect living situation.
However, Archer's lie and Clyde's obsession with coffee jelly causes the line to blur.
