Have you ever heard of about the two small towns that were always bickering at each other? If you have not, I shall tell you about it. This is the Tale of The Two Towns.
In the small town of the west where the town was what could be said elegant, yet comfortable for being a small town, where its people were the friendliest whom you would ever met, at least much friendlier than the people in the city, one could said, today could be called the happiest day for a certain woman who owned the farm outside of the town. In that beautiful, sunny, and joyful day, she finally became the happiest mother ever as she had given birth to the cutest and the most adorable twins. One being a handsome baby boy, while the other was his beautiful twin sister. The town shared along her happiness as they congratulated the new and happy mother as well as even blessed her and the newborn babies. One could tell though, that their babies were indeed blessed, and if one noticed, one of them was even the one who would bring the change of fate in the two towns.
Some years passed after that joyful day. The twin had now grown into a cheerful and happy children. Even though they were twins, they had some differences in them. Just like their hair length, which was pretty obvious since one was a boy and the other was a girl. The other would be their eyes. While the older twin brother had shared their mother's beautiful and bright blue eyes, his younger twin sister had a pair of beautiful, big purple eyes that were as bright as the amethyst stone. Besides those though, they shared most of the other things. They both were friendly, and cheerful that they had gotten along well with not just kids their ages in the town, but also with the older residents. They were indeed the prides of their beloved mother. Not only they were devoted to her mother to help her in her farm most of the time, but they also helped around the people around the town.
Even though the twin were both very friendly and kind to everyone in town, but some could say that the younger sister was one of who was more caring, not saying that the older twin brother was not caring or what not, but he just sometime took it the other way around than his younger sister who directly would take sympathy and care for oneself. She even cried when one of their animals died, seriously, she was just too kind for her own good, her own brother even admitted. Another prove was when one day there was a new boy who just moved to the town. The said boy was either shy or just had a bad experience with people that he did not interact with many of the town residents, not even to the friendliest twin there. However, the younger twin took her own courage to begin a conversation with the new boy despite her being ignored at the first attempt. But, her brother admitted that what she did was brave and kind enough and it born fruit in the end as the boy slowly opened up to her, and later to her twin, and the other kids of their age. He was mostly still shy to the older residents, or so the older twin thought, but at least he had tried to talk to them. Anyway, in the end, the boy who seemed older than the twin became very close to them the most, along with their mother who took care of the boy as well.
Everything had went well and all for another couple of years, until one of the twin brought up the topic of their father whom they had never seen once at all. Their mother got taken aback for a moment and got silent for that moment until she sighed and decided that it was time to tell the two children of her about their father. They were told that their father was actually a man from the neighbouring town which was the town that did not get along well with Bluebell, called Konohana. She had told them about how they met that day one the peek of the mountain when the cooking festival was held that day. The two had fallen in love at first sight at that time, knowing well that one of each was the pride of each towns being the best cooks in each towns. Not just the best cooks, but they were also the best farmers for their own towns.
Ever since back then, the two towns had not been in a good term with each other, so they knew that it was impossible to fall for each other. Not to mention about their own parents who obviously wanted them to marry one of the local girl and boy from their own towns. However, they could not deny their loves after all, and they had secretly planned up to meet at the peek of the mountain most of everyday, with the reason of foraging and all the others. At first, none of their parents knew about it and even thought that they were proud of their hardworking children. But later on, they had gone to the mountain every single day from morning until late at night and the girl's parents had become worried yet also curious why she had gone to the mountain that often, that one day, she was followed by her parents. Long story short, both of their parents found out and forbid them to go to the mountain anymore, whatever the reason. They could only come to the mountain only to participate at the cooking festival as they were both the best cooks after all. However, since their parents also come with them, they had not a chance to talk to each other. Until one time they had managed to sneak around together when the towns started bickering once again.
The girl was afraid that if they were to be found out, they were to be separated forever. They would not even be able to see each other anymore in the cooking festival for she had thought that once her parents found out, she would not even be allowed to go to the mountain forever, even if it meant for the town to lose one and only best cook they had. But, the boy was pretty confident and even passionate that he had asked her to elope with him. The girl looked at the boy shocked and she was hesitating at first, but she did not want to be separated from him anymore and so she agreed. In the end, the two eloped and got married, leaving the two towns. That did not stand for a long time though, for they had eloped to the city, they found it hard to make an earning there as they were only children of farmers. So, the husband decided that it would be better to return to the towns. The wife protested and disagreed with him saying that they could work for it if they were together. At first, the husband looked at his desperate wife, understanding that she did not want to lose him as much as he did not want to lose her, so he listened to her and pushed back the topic. Until one day, he could not bear to see his wife being tortured by how they lived now. So he made up his mind about returning to the two towns.
At first, he did not tell his wife about it, and he just told her that they should go on a vacation. Hearing that, his wife bright up instantly, happy about it, and she immediately packed up her stuffs along with her husbands and readied to depart immediately as her husband suggested. But, as she soon realised the path they were taking was awfully to familiar to her, it was all too late already, and she realised that they had returned to their towns. There she saw both of their parents standing at the peek of the mountain, waiting for her and her husband. Once they both were on their feet on the ground, she looked at her husband, looking at his eyes with her own eyes which filled with confusion, hurtful, and betrayal. Her husband dared not to look at his wife as he had figured out what she was thinking of him. Instead of letting her speak of anything, he just bluntly said in a cold voice, "Let's split up." And with that, he walked down the path to his hometown, Konohana with his already grown old parents, leaving his ex-wife alone with her parents who were as old as well.
On her way back to her home in Bluebell with her already old parents, they could barely hear their parents talking to her about how she had a mistake marrying that man and how she should just forget about him and all. But she paid no mind to it. She was just too hurt. She felt betrayal and her heart was broken to pieces. However, despite that, she refused to remarry to other men her parents had picked up for her. Even until the death of her parents, she had not forgotten about her ex-husband, and until she realised she was pregnant with their children, she still loved him dearly. She had forgiven him and had understood that he had done that for her own good. Though, she would prefer to have stayed with him rather than being left alone by him, after all, the two could never meet anymore.
Upon hearing the sad story of their mother's past with their unknown father, the twin was left speechless, and yet, sadden at the same time. They never thought that such past happened to their parents. Their mother brushed it off with her gentle smile like usual though, ushering them both to bed as it was already late at night. The twins listened to their mother and headed to their bed, however, unlike her older twin brother who had already fallen asleep, quite fast she thought, she had not been able to sleep as she was thinking about her mother's story, about her father whom she never knew. Feeling that nothing would change by only thinking about it, she pushed it to the back of her mind and let the slumber pulled her to sleep.
The next morning came like any other day. The family of three was eating breakfast peacefully before they started their activity at the farm. What went different was when the younger twin suddenly opened her mouth and spoke something shocking to both her brother and her mother. "I want to see father." She bluntly and innocently said leaving the other two people in her house speechless. There was an awkward, and uncomfortable silence hanging in the small dining room, until her mother broke it by saying, "I am sorry, Lily, but it is impossible at the moment." She gave her a sad smile as she pat her head before heading to the kitchen with the dishes on her hands. Her brother could only look at her still being speechless.
A couple of weeks had passed until that short, uncomfortable talk and nobody brought up the topic anymore, not even the one who brought it up in the first place. But, she was still curious and she just had this feeling of wanting to meet her father. So, one day, she went up to the mountain, to the waterfall where the people said that the legendary Harvest Goddess rested, and once she met her, she made one wish that would change her life forever.
