“Aren’t you going to help me sort through these?” Zane looked over to his tall malamute friend hastily. Aarav huffed and slowly got up from his chair, looking through some of the things in the pile that Zane had collected. Lisa had nothing else to do, so she thought that she might as well help too.
“Uuh...Zane?” She pulled out a bent metal pipe. “Are you sure we need all of this?”
“Of course!” Zane grinned in confidence, knowing in his right mind that they would find something useful. Well...maybe everything except for the brown boot that Zane had pulled out. He threw the boot to the side as it landed on the carpet. “You never know when we may need these!”
Zane looked over at Aarav and flinched. Aarav had somehow pulled out a large pocketknife from the pile. The handle was a dark blood red with golden designs of a dragon. The blade seemed fairly new when Aarav activated it, peculiar since Zane had looked around in a junkyard for all of this. “Oh. Well. We may just need that as well then, huh?” Zane sighed and set his hands on the table.
Aarav gave the knife to Lisa, who observed it with curiosity. The blade was fairly clean, even though the junkyard that Zane came back from seemed dirty. Come to think of it, Zane came back really clean as well. But that’s just him. He needs to keep clean since he would have a heart attack if his fancy clothes had gotten any dirt on them from the trip he had taken.
“What’re you guys doing?” A voice called from upstairs. Lisa placed the pocketknife back on the table and walked toward the voice. She came up to the front of the stairs and the smaller figure came down. His black and white locks bounced as his light blue eyes watched his step. His oversized clothes creased here and there as he stepped down the stairs to Lisa.
“Hi, Rogan.” Lisa smiled politely at her friend. “We’re just sorting through things Zane found in the junkyard today.”
“He went there again?” Rogan made sure to fix his harp seal tail. “I thought he hated dirt.”
“Well we need supplies for the ship, remember?” Lisa pointed at the large ship that stood outside, which looked like it had crashed. Years ago, the group woke up here, with themselves, a years supply of food an water, and their ship, which was taken by others who found it. Now they had another ship, which was close by the same junkyard Zane was in. And Zane was determined to get away from this ‘dirt ball’.
“Well, only heaven knows when we’ve actually found something useful.” Rogan sighed and fixed his glasses, cleaning them as he did. “It’s been long. We should have been out of here by now.”
“I know, I know.” Lisa sighed in disappointment but in agreement with Rogan’s point. “But we’ll get out of here...eventually.” They’ve been searching for the one thing that could activate the ship for months since they had gotten there in the first place. It has been almost a year since they arrived, and Lisa knew they should have left. But unfortunately, time can’t be sped up for them, and they were just going to have to wait longer.
