“Cloe!” I shut my locker as I turned around to see Clare. She pushed her long curly red hair over her shoulder showing her Red Match patch with a golden star in the middle, representing being on the student council, on her shoulder, “Ditching on the student counsel again, I see?”
“Sorry. Classes just ran longer then what was expected. I was on my way to go talk to Mr. Vince about the talent show we have been planning. I noticed yesterday, that they want us to cancel the whole thing.”
“So, you already did hear about that…” She sighed, “and I thought I was actually going to be helpful for once as the Vice President.”
I laughed and smiled, “I’m sorry. I was at school late last night making sure our budgeting team had completed everything necessary for the talent show and Mrs. Jones came in and told me.”
“I see,” I could see the disappointment in her face. She was looking forward to playing her violin in the show.
“Don’t count it out yet though!”
Clare stared at me for a moment and then began to laugh, “I don’t know how you can keep so busy and at the same time stay so positive. You are the school president, and you also help out all the sports teams when they need an extra, and on top of all that, have been the number one student in academics.”
“Well the sports don’t take to much time. Its only during some of the team’s practices, do they need help and academic wise, my parents would kill me if I got anything less.”
Clare stared at me and I could tell she was trying to pick up on my emotions but was struggling at the same time. I had stopped smiling when I mentioned my parents. I took a few steps towards her and put my hand on her shoulder, “I need you though to pick up the slack. I saw that you were number 108 in our class academic wise. How can I have a vice president who doesn’t study at all?” I smirked.
“I…” Clare tensed up, “Look at the time! Good luck with Mr. Vince. I know if anyone can convince him to let us do the talent show, you can.” Clare turned and ran back down the hall towards the student counsel room.
“But really…” I scratched my head, “You should actually study more.” I laughed to myself and turned around towards Mr. Vince’s office. He was one of the disciplinary teacher that helped run the student council.
I came to his door and knocked a few times. The door opened on its own and I saw Mr. Vince staring out the window. I could then see a small plant next to the door retracting its roots into a small pot. I walked inside and close the door behind me.
“Sir, I wanted to talk to you about the talent…”
“It’s not going to happen this year,” He interrupted.
“But sir, we have it every…”
He turned around in his chair and slammed a fist on the desk, “I already said it’s not going to happen this year.”
I walked closer to his desk, “But why?” I demanded.
He began to roll his fingers on the desk, slowly letting each finger hit and come back up, “We have had some issues recently with security. Starting tomorrow actually we are going to cancel all after school activities and all student will have to go back to the dormitory’s.”
“What kind of issues are you talking about. As student council president, I have to know what to tell the other students when they ask why all the after-school activities are canceled. If I can’t tell them, then what kind of leader would I be?”
He signed and turned back around in his chair, “Three students have gone missing in the past few days. We think one of the teachers or students is responsible. Until we can find the three students or the person responsible, we can’t risk anymore students.”
“Missing? Sir, please let the student council help! You know we are the top Match Users in this school. We can handle ourselves perfectly in any fight.”
“It’s to dangerous for any students to get involved. Please let the adults handle this.”
I slammed my hands on his desk then, “Stop acting as though we are useless children. We have proved to this school, we can hold our own.”
Mr. Vince turned back around in his chair and glared at me. We stared at one another for minutes without either of us speaking.
“Fine, student council may help us in the search, but on one condition.”
“What is that”
“None of you are allowed to leave the school unless escorted by one of the instructors that help with the student council. They are the only instructors I trust at this time.”
“Yes sir. I will pass on the news to everyone and make sure tomorrow all other activities going on end and go back to the dorms.”
“Yes. Yes.” He waved his hand and turned back in his chair and looked outside.
I turned around and saw the large root open the door and retreat to its pot again.
“Cloe.” I turned around to looked at Mr. Vince, “Please be careful. The three that were taken were all in the top rankings in middle school.”
I nodded, “Don’t worry sir. The student council won’t get in the way.” I turned around and left his office. I began to walk down the hall to the student council room and noticed a few students whispering at there lockers.
“Hey, school is over and if you do not have any after school clubs, please go home.” I warned.
The students glared at me and smiled, “You think you’re the boss of us just because you have a shiny star on your chest?”
I glared at the one who spoke, “No. Having this star just means I have some power to make sure you all get detention if you don’t follow the rules. Now as I warned, go back to the dorms now.”
The one that spoke before laughed and kicked the locker behind him, “Whatever. Let’s go guys. This is just a waste of time to keep talking to someone who is so blind and a teacher’s pet.”
I ignored them and continued to walk past them, as they all picked up their bags and began to walk the other way, “Don’t think your strong just because you rank high in school. You would be nothing outside of here. Try leaving this prison sometime and actutally see what true power is.” The guy laughed. I fought myself not to turn around and reply to his statement but, as the student council president, I wasn’t allowed to engage in any conflicts.
I made it finally to the student council room and paused outside the room to hear yelling coming from the other side and signed. I swung open the door to see Amy drenched in water and Ben who had random tears in his clothing from what I assumed to be Amy’s electric bolts she could create. Clare was on the other side of the room with Tim and Tom. They were all playing a video game on the tv. I shut the door behind me and no one bothered to notice.
Sasha quickly popped out of our closet and quickly ran towards me, “Cloe’s back!” I could hear the excitement in her voice. She was one of the youngest on the council that represented the elementary students. Ben and Amy quickly straighten up. They were both middle school students.
“We were just messing around.” Ben nudged Amy’s arm who quickly agreed.
“I can tell.” I said as I walked over to our table and sat down. Amy and Ben who were already next to it, quickly sat down across from me. Sasha climbed in the seat next to me and wiggled back and forth, “Sasha, can you do me a favor?”
“Of course!”
“Can you turn off the tv, so we can have some of the others join us?”
“Of course!” She looked past Amy and Ben and I could see her eyes turn black as she focused. Suddenly all power went out above us and I burst into laughing as I could her Sasha begin to panic and apologies. She leaned over towards me showing her black patch on her tiny shoulder.
“Hey! What happen to the…” I watched as Clare paused and looked at me. She quickly set down the controller and stood up, “Now I told you guys to stop distracting me from important duties.”
Tim and Tom laughed and set down their controllers and walked to the table ignoring Clare. Tim has a black patch while Tom had a White patch. They were a very powerful Match pair. Clare followed behind them. When everyone was seat, I glanced up at the lights above and they turned on.
“I have some important news for everyone. All school activities have been canceled tomorrow and so forth until further instruction. All students must return back to the dorms right after school.”
“Why?” Amy quickly stood up and put her hands on the table, “The big softball game is coming up and every practice till then matters.”
“No exceptions.”
“But…”
“Three students are missing.” Amy slowly sat back in her chair.
“Three? How could anyone go missing? Only teachers can leave and enter campus daily.” Clare shook her head as she looked down at the table.
“They think it may be a teacher or even a student who is to blame for the missing’s. The student council can still work after school though but, we have to all return to the dorms with one of the instructors. I am also going to not let us work longer then an hour after school ends. I don’t want to risk getting stuck walking in the dark at all back to the dorms. I need you all to help the teachers with this new policy. Please let everyone know its for their own good but, anyone we catch at school after school hours will have to deal with the disciplinary teachers. Everyone understand?”
I glanced around the table to see everyone nodding.
“It won’t be easy, but it would be worse if anyone got hurt or taken from the softball team. Ill make sure they understand.” Amy mumbled. I could tell she was disappointed since she had missed practice the past few days due to the talent show we were planning.
“Thank you.”
I felt a tug on my sleeve, “And Ill make sure the elementary students understand too.”
“Thanks,” I smiled and patted Sasha on the head, “You are excused though from student council till things become safer again. Your dorms are further from ours and will be safer this way.” Sasha nodded but, I could see the disappointment on her face.
“I guess that leaves us to deal with the middle school clubs since you guys have high school covered.” Amy sighed.
“That will end it for today then. Lets all walk back to the dorms together. All clubs have finished up anyway today.”
