“Please take what you need and go.” Alex said sternly.
“Are you locked in here all alone?” Another man asked.
“No, my group is out now and could be back any moment, so if you would so kindly leave soon.” Alex demanded.
“You look young and very fun.” A third man replied.
“How dare that creep.” I heard Sarah mumble as her fists tightened.
“What's back here?” A man asked. Sarah and I tensed up as we knew he was outside the door now. We watched as the knob turned.
“It's been locked since we got here. Probably just the dead now. Now please leave now.” Alex demanded.
“Why don’t you come with us though? Our group could protect you more than the group that left you all alone.”
“Come on, it could be fun little fox.” said the man near the door. He suddenly hit the door and I accidentally let out a squeak. “My, my. Seems like you are lying to us. Who's back here?”
“Leave!” Alex said as we heard her click her safety off.
“And leave you all behind. I think not. I don’t know how many of you are back there but unlock the door or your little friend dies.” I could feel Sarah shaking now.
“Did you not hear me the first...” We suddenly heard something fall to the ground. Sarah unlocked the door and a man with a rifle on his back and a wolfs mask on stood on the other side waiting.
“Well looky here, I found two more.”
Sarah pulled out her knife and pointed it at the man, “Leave or else I will cut your throat out and watch you bleed out on the ground.”
“Wow, that’s pretty violent and mean.” The Wolf man laughed. Sarah lunged at him and he quickly grabbed her hand with the knife and forced her to stab the wall. Sarah seemed to be a daze and he pulled out a taser and shocked her with it. Her body went limp and he set her down, “One down, one more to go. Now I don’t have to use force on you, if you just come with us willingly.” The Wolf man warned me. I backed up against the small table in the middle of the room. I turned around and noticed I was trapped. I remembered then that I had guns in my backpack and one on a belt around me. I pulled the gun on him and stood my ground. The Wolf man hesitated for a moment and then laughed, “Do you know even how to use that?”
“Yes,” I clicked off the safety then and aimed for his head, “I do.” He suddenly back away from me a bit.
“If you shoot me, your friends will be killed without hesitation. Then you. Do you want to die?” He began to step towards me again. I bit my lip as I thought of what I should do. The Wolf man was now in front of me and forced my gun out of hands. “See was that really that hard? We don’t mean any of you harm. Now tell me the truth, are you guys the only ones that lived here?”
“Hey Wolf, we need to get going. We have company. I looked around him to see another man with a pig mask on grabbed Sarah, “Grab her and lets go now.”
“Right.” Wolf looked at me, “Either you can follow, or I can carry you out of here.”
“Follow...” I mumbled.
Wolf then grabbed my hand and we began to run out of the room. They were a group of ten it looked like. Two of them looked like females. I saw Alex then knocked out on one of the guys shoulders.
“Let’s move!” We all began to run out of the gun store and I looked behind to see those things or in better terms, “Zombies” behind us. The bag on my back was making it harder and harder to keep up with Wolf. It was heavier then what I thought at first and I was starting to feel it.
“Keep up!” Wolf demanded.
“In front of us!” yelled another. Wolf let of my hand and used my gun to shoot a few that were standing in our way out of the mall. I continued to run with till I suddenly tripped.
I looked down at my feet to see I had tripped on one of those things. I quickly tried to get back on my feet but before I could, a zombie was already towering over me. Her face was torn off and blood began to drip onto my cheeks. She suddenly lunged down onto me and began to bit at me. I held her back the best I could. I could feel some of the clips in my bag digging into my back now. I noticed more were getting closer to me. A gun shot then went off and the zombie on top of me went limp. Wolf pushed her off and pulled me to my feet. “I told you to keep up!” He yelled and pulled me with him. I couldn’t move though. It was as though my legs were glued to the ground. “Are you serious?” He quickly threw me over his back and began to run. I looked behind us to see a whole herd of them.
“Hurry up Wolf.” I heard the others yell.
We ran out the front of the mall and he threw me in the back of a truck with Sarah and Alex. There was also a person with a frog mask and person with a clown mask in the back looking at us. I felt the truck start to move and take off down the road with a few other vehicles.
“How long were you guys there for?” Asked the Frog mask.
“Only a few days.” I mumbled as I took off the backpack with the gun and ammo. I looked down at my arm to see claw marks of where the zombie had grabbed me when it was trying to bite at my face. I tried to cover the marks with my sleeve but noticed the blood was seeping through.
“What happened?” The Frog mask walked over to me and knelled down beside me, “Let me take a look.” The Frog mask person removed the mask revealing a female who didn’t look much older than Sarah and Alex. She raised my sleeve back up and then looked back up at me. She looked a little nervous, “What is your name?”
“I go by Scout.” I mumbled.
“How old are you, Scout?” She asked as she gently rolled her fingers over the scraps.
“Sixteen.” I said as I bit my lip as she touched my arm.
She got up and walked towards the front of the truck and knocked on the window. Someone slid it open.
“What do you want Jane?”
“Can I see the first aid kit we collected?”
“Why?”
“Cause I asked.”
“You know what, I think you should be nicer to me since I saved you and all.”
“I remember having to save you actually.” Jane said as she grabbed the first aid kit from someone.
“Ya, I remember that. You tripped and needed Jane to save you.” said Wolf from up front.
“Hey shut up!”
Jane walked back over to me laughing and opened the first aid kit up. “Lets' see... Nice, looks like you got lucky. We have some wrap and some cotton balls. Clown, pass me some of that liquor we snagged.” The clown dug into a bag and pulled out a green bottle and rolled it towards Jane. She grabbed my arm and picked up the bottle. She began to pour some of it on my arm and I tried to pull away, but she held a tight grip, “Don’t make this harder then what it has to be. We saved you guys, you know. There were some crazy people that were heading towards the mall later and they would have killed you guys for sure or worse.”
“We could have taken care of ourselves.” I mumbled.
She laughed, “I can see.” She looked over at Alex and Sara who were still out cold.
I thought for a moment but didn’t know how to reply.
“You almost got killed, if it wasn’t for us saving you from such a simple zombie too. You guys really think, you could have taken on a group of thugs?”
“I would have been fine if someone didn’t take my gun.” I glared up at the front of the truck.
“You little brat. I could have just let the damn zombie eat you.” I could hear Wolf yell.
“I could have shot him if I had my gun or even not be in that situation if you guys would have let us stay. We were packing up anyway.” I stated.
“And going where?” I looked at Jane who was now done wrapping up my arm.
“We’ve been fine on our own since this thing started last week. We don’t need anyone.” I looked over at Sarah and Alex. I noticed they were propped against the side of the truck. I noticed then the man in the pig mask has his hand on Alex’s leg. Without thinking, I dug into my backpack and pulled out the 9mm and pointed it at him, “Stay away from her!” I yelled and got to my feet.
“Whoa.”
“Who the fuck didn’t check her bag?”
“Don’t do anything rash.”
I heard a gun get pointed at directly at my head then, “Drop the gun.”
“What the fuck is going on back there?” I looked over to see Wolf peeking through the window from the front seat. I watched as he quickly crawled through it then, “Wow there!” He got to his feet and walked towards Jane and I.
“Not until that pig gets away from them.” I yelled and clicked the hammer on the gun back.
“Pig move!” I heard Jane yell. I watched Pig scooted away from them, “Now give me the gun.” I felt Jane grabbed my gun. Then I suddenly felt a jolt of electricity run through my body. I fell to the ground as I noticed the taser in her hand.
“Wolf, grab her backpack. Let’s check what all she brought.” Jane said.
I was in a daze as I watched Wolf unzip my backpack completely, “Wow, she was really packing.”
“Let me see.” Jane peaked inside the bag, “Wow, so that’s where most the ammo was. Good call in saving her.”
I watched as Wolf lifted the wolf mask and scratched his nose, “I have a great sense for these kinda things.”
“Those are ours.” I mumbled.
They looked down at me. Jane then bent down to my level, “You see, since we saved and even patched you up, we will take this for payment.”
“You can take out all the weapons and ammo but give my backpack back. That was my dad’s.” I started to have feeling again and started to sit up a little more.
“Wolf, go empty it out in the crates. We don’t need the backpack.” Jane ordered and stood back up. She then walked back up to the front of the truck, “How is the road looking?”
“Looks good. No dead out walking on it for once.” I heard the drive reply.
I suddenly felt my backpack hit me. I grabbed hold of it and looked up. Wolf stared at me and then finally threw his hands up, “Not even a thank you. Jane, she’s broken.”
Jane laughed, “Aw poor Wolf.”
I checked my watch and crawled over to Alex and Sarah. Alex seemed to be already waking up again.
“Scout, what happened?”
I leaned closer to her ear, “Those people took all of us and our weapons. I think we are heading back to their camp.” I whispered.
“How long have I been out?” Alex whispered back.
“Not too long. Maybe ten minutes.”
Alex looked over at Sara and bumped her arm. Sara’s eyes slowly began to open also. We looked at the ground till finally the truck came to a stop.
“I know we aren’t there yet.” Jane walked up to the front and leaned at the small window to the driver’s seat, “Why did we stop?”
“There are spike strips laid out on the road.”
“Who the hell put those out?” Jane began to walk to the back of the truck and pointed at us, “You leave the truck, we will shoot you down.” She then hopped out of the truck and Wolf followed behind her with a rifle. Then the Pig and Clown shortly followed, leaving the three of us alone in the back. I quickly opened my backpack and pulled the back off of the inside reviling 8 different shots. I grabbed one and held out my arm. I could see my hands already starting to shake.
