It remained tense, but a little less so. The silence that surrounded us felt so fragile, so vulnerable and intimate. He sat silent for a long time, staring at the glass. He did eventually take a sip. Watching him do so, it felt so strange. There was this feeling, this instinct to comfort and protect, not just him, but Jenny as well. Those two, for some reason, for some unexplainable motive, had become important to me. I didn’t owe them anything, I barely knew them, especially that man, but it would have been an utter lie to my entire being if I said that they didn’t matter to me. This place, this strange little shop, it did something. What that was couldn’t be put into words. Or maybe it was us? Some human quality that bonded us? I invited both of them to my place for dinner tomorrow night.
